PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

AI562 acquires two resistance-based sensor signals

ABB AI562 measures two configurable resistance-temperature or resistance inputs in an S500-eCo I/O station. Supported sensor selections include Pt100, Pt1000, Ni100 and Ni1000, with two-wire or three-wire RTD connections.

The module is ordered as 1TNE968902R1102. Its two channels share one isolated group and use a separate 24 V DC process supply. Check the hardware index before applying power-consumption or accuracy figures: ABB distinguishes versions before E0 from E0 and later.
ACTUAL APPLICATIONS

Where AI562 acquires temperature and resistance values

ABB documents two-wire and three-wire RTD circuits alongside dedicated resistance ranges. Choose the acquisition method for the actual sensor and cable arrangement.
  • 01 · LOCAL RTD SENSING

    Measure nearby temperature sensors

Use a supported two-wire RTD for a short sensor run. Account for the resistance of both leads when assessing the indicated temperature, and select the matching Pt100, Pt1000, Ni100 or Ni1000 configuration.
  • 02 · REMOTE RTD SENSING

Limit lead effects on remote measurements

Apply the documented three-wire circuit when longer RTD wiring would introduce unacceptable two-wire lead error. Keep the installation within the permitted cable length and conductor requirements, then compare the channel value with the actual sensor condition.
  • 03 · RESISTANCE ACQUISITION

    Read resistance without temperature scaling

Select the documented 150 ohm or 300 ohm measuring range for resistance acquisition. Interpret the channel data using that range rather than a temperature curve, and verify the connected resistance and lead-loop limits before commissioning.

S500-eCo RESISTANCE INPUT

Match the RTD circuit and terminal block

AI562 provides two configurable resistance-based input channels in an AC500 S500-eCo installation. The channels use one isolated group; the documented isolation is not independent isolation between both sensor inputs.
The RTD current-source terminals are 10 and 13, sense inputs 11 and 14, and returns 12 and 15. Process power is connected at 19 and 20. Use the exact circuit for the selected two-wire or three-wire sensor, not a generic analog-input diagram.
The removable terminal block is a separately ordered item. Restore channel parameters in the controller project and keep the before-E0 and E0-or-later electrical ratings distinct when checking the cabinet power budget.

Features:

  • Select the actual RTD or resistance range
  • Specify the required 11-pin terminal block
  • Check hardware index and supply budget
The ABB AI562 requires its sensor circuit, terminal allocation and hardware index to be verified before system integration and commissioning.
INTERCHANGEABILITY

Verify the complete replacement identity before commissioning

ABB lists AI562 as Active in datasheet 3ADR010032 revision 14 dated 2026-03-23. This does not make it interchangeable with a voltage, current or thermocouple input module; the actual signal class must match.
Record the terminal-block type, sensor family, wiring method and configured range before exchange. Compare the hardware index because power consumption and specified measurement errors differ between earlier units and E0 or later.
Isolate supply and process voltages before removing the module or its terminals. Following replacement, restore the engineered channel configuration and compare both readings against known sensor conditions before enabling dependent control functions.

Features:

  • Keep the RTD and resistance signal scope
  • Review index-dependent electrical ratings
  • Validate both sensor readings after exchange
The ABB AI562 requires replacement verification of the sensor selection, terminal assignment and controller configuration before commissioning.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions buyers ask about AI562

Direct answers about identity, compatibility, stock, warranty, payment and shipping.
  • Why does a two-wire Pt100 circuit read differently after its cable is extended?

Lead resistance contributes to the measured resistance in a two-wire circuit. ABB recommends keeping that cable short and using the documented three-wire connection for longer runs to achieve the specified measuring accuracy.
  • Must the RTD connector be ordered separately from AI562?

Yes. ABB lists the 11-pin TA563-11, TA564-11 and TA565-11 terminal blocks separately. Select the required screw or spring connection and cable direction, and include the terminal block explicitly in the order.
  • How should panel designers budget AI562 power before the hardware index is known?

Do not assume the lower E0 figures. ABB lists 40 mA process current and 1.1 W maximum module dissipation before E0, compared with 20 mA and 0.6 W for E0 or later. The CPU or interface supply also carries approximately 5 mA for the module.
  • Does 0.1 degree resolution mean the complete temperature measurement is accurate to 0.1 degree?

No. Resolution is the displayed temperature increment, not total accuracy. Sensor selection, lead resistance, hardware index, ambient conditions and the applicable full-scale error specification must be considered separately.
  • Can the 150 ohm setting be used as a generic 0-10 V input?

No. AI562 provides RTD and resistance selections, not a general voltage-input range. Use the supported resistance circuit or a separately verified voltage-input module; never connect a voltage source simply because the connector fits.
  • How much controller input space should be reserved for one AI562?

ABB specifies four input-data bytes for the two-channel module. Map both channel values in the engineered I/O configuration and check the interpretation of the selected sensor range before using them in the control program.
  • Will a sub-second control task receive a new temperature sample on every execution?

Not necessarily. ABB specifies less than one second for updating all channels and a typical conversion time of 190 ms per channel. A faster controller task can therefore read the same conversion result more than once.
  • What should the technician do with terminal 16 when reusing an old terminal block?

Leave it unconnected. ABB marks terminal 16 as reserved and warns that reserved terminals may carry internal voltages. Verify the complete terminal assignment with all supply and process power isolated before reconnecting the field wiring.
