PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

AO561 sends engineered analog commands to field devices

ABB AO561 generates two configurable analog output signals for an AC500 S500-eCo station. Each channel can serve a voltage or current load through its assigned terminals; the unused signal terminal of that channel must remain disconnected.

Order 1TNE968902R1201 for AO561. Match the receiver burden, signal reference and selected range before energizing the output. The output circuits are not galvanically isolated, and hardware index E0 changes resolution and electrical consumption relative to earlier versions.
ACTUAL APPLICATIONS

Where AO561 delivers analog control references

ABB documents drive-reference and analog-actuator connections. The receiver circuit, selected signal mode and load limits determine whether the installation is suitable.
  • 01 · DRIVE REFERENCE

Provide a differential drive input signal

The MicroFlex e190 manual includes an AO561 connection to its analog input. Use the documented signal and return terminals, follow the drive-specific shield instruction and verify the programmed analog-input function before enabling motion.
  • 02 · CURRENT ACTUATION

    Command a current-input actuator

Use the configured current-output terminal for a compatible analog actuator. Include receiver and wiring resistance in the 0 to 500 ohm load check, and leave the corresponding voltage-output terminal disconnected.
  • 03 · VOLTAGE ACTUATION

    Set a voltage-input receiver reference

Connect the selected voltage output to a compatible receiver and common signal return. Keep the load within the maximum plus or minus 2 mA capability and make the installation safe during low-supply or power-transition conditions.

S500-eCo ANALOG COMMANDS

Match output mode, reference and receiver burden

AO561 supplies two configured voltage or current commands through different terminal pairs. The two channels share the documented reference arrangement and do not provide galvanic isolation.
Voltage signals use terminals 13 and 15; current signals use 14 and 16. The shared output return is terminal 17, with 24 V DC process supply on 19 and 20. Never connect both signal alternatives of one channel simultaneously.
Confirm the removable terminal block, receiver burden and safe output behavior during supply changes. Restore the engineered channel configuration and use the actual hardware index when checking resolution and power ratings.

Features:

  • Select voltage or current deliberately
  • Check load and reference potential
  • Verify safe receiver behavior at power transitions
The ABB AO561 requires the selected output circuit, receiver loading and common reference to be checked before system integration and commissioning.
INTERCHANGEABILITY

Verify the complete replacement identity before commissioning

The ABB AO561 data sheet revision 12, dated 2024-11-15, lists this order as Active. Replacement assessment still depends on the installed hardware index and receiving circuit, not simply the presence of two analog channels.
Record each channel mode, scaling, receiver load and terminal assignment before exchange. A lower-power later index does not remove the need to inspect output behavior and validate the actual connected equipment.
Isolate all supply and process voltages before removing the module or terminal block. After replacement, compare controller commands with measured output and receiver response while keeping actuators in a safe test state.

Features:

  • Preserve channel mode and scaling
  • Check index-specific resolution and loading
  • Validate actual receiver response before release
The ABB AO561 requires replacement verification of the output circuit, hardware index and receiver behavior before commissioning.
DOCUMENTATION STATUS

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions buyers ask about AO561

Direct answers about identity, compatibility, stock, warranty, payment and shipping.
  • Can both the voltage and current terminals of one AO561 channel feed different devices?

No. Only the terminals corresponding to the configured output mode may be connected. ABB warns that the voltage output is undefined in current mode and the current output is undefined in voltage mode.
  • Why must the actuator remain safe while the 24 V supply ramps up?

ABB states that AO561 output is undefined when L+ is below 10 V. A slowly rising or falling supply can pass through that condition; the installation must prevent the resulting signal from causing unintended actuator movement.
  • Can a 750 ohm receiver be driven directly in current-output mode?

It exceeds the documented 0 to 500 ohm load range. Check the complete receiver and cable burden before selecting AO561; do not assume a current output can maintain its command at any load resistance.
  • How much load can a voltage receiver draw from AO561?

ABB specifies a maximum voltage-output load current of plus or minus 2 mA. Confirm the receiver input impedance and any parallel loads against that limit before connection.
  • Is the output reference electrically separated from the rest of the module?

No. AO561 is specified without galvanic isolation. Review the receiver reference and grounding arrangement rather than assuming that its analog interface provides an isolation barrier.
  • Which terminals does ABB use for an AO561 reference to MicroFlex e190?

The MicroFlex e190 manual shows AO561 terminal 13 connected to X3 pin 19 and terminal 17 to X3 pin 9. Follow that complete drive-specific diagram, including its shield instruction, and verify the configured input function before operation.
  • Can an output-state LED confirm that the receiver is getting the requested analog value?

No dedicated indication of the analog output signal is specified. Measure the actual output under the intended load and compare it with the controller command and receiver indication during commissioning.
  • What should MRO personnel check when a spare has a different hardware index?

Compare the index-specific resolution and electrical ratings. The ABB data sheet distinguishes 12-bit from 13-bit including-sign resolution at E0, and also changes power consumption; preserve the engineered signal scaling and validate the receiver response.
