CI522-MODTCP links discrete signals and pulse acquisition
ABB CI522-MODTCP brings discrete input and output signals into a Modbus TCP remote station. It contains eight fixed digital inputs, eight fixed transistor outputs and eight configurable digital channels, with fast-counter functions for suitable pulse signals.
The standard interface is ordered as 1SAP222200R0001. Its register image, channel assignments and fault response must match the controller configuration. The ABB documentation supports remote I/O and engineered high-availability arrangements; an interface alone does not establish controller redundancy or a safety function.

Use the interface within ABB's documented AC500 high-availability architecture. Coordinate the redundant controller configuration and diagnostic handling, then test changeover with the actual field equipment; installing a CI522 alone does not create a redundant control system. -
03 · PULSE MEASUREMENT
Acquire pulses with the required counter mode
Configure the documented fast-counter function for a suitable field pulse source. Select the operating mode before applying its frequency limit, connect the specified counter terminals and compare the reported count with a controlled test sequence before operation.

Why do primary and secondary controllers sometimes show different CI522 diagnostic histories?
ABB warns that CI52x diagnostic information can be read only once. Synchronize diagnostic data in the application or handle it centrally in SCADA so independent reads do not create inconsistent histories. -
Which mapping format is required by the CiModCi52x function block?
ABB specifies Dynamic Mapping for this function block. Selecting Fixed Mapping can stop its communication with the module; verify this setting in Automation Builder rather than relying only on a valid IP address. -
Does disabling the communication function block simulate a lost-interface alarm?
No. ABB states that Enable = FALSE does not set the CI-module-lost RuntimeError bit in HaModControl. Test actual communications failure separately from a deliberate function-block disable. -
Can every fast-counter mode accept a 200 kHz pulse train?
No. Modes 1-6 are specified up to 200 kHz, mode 7 to 50 kHz, mode 9 to 35 kHz and mode 10 to 20 kHz. Select the documented mode and verify the physical pulse source. -
Will a reinserted expansion output retain its pre-removal last value during failsafe?
In an approved hot-swap system, ABB says a reinserted module has a last value of zero, so its output remains off rather than recovering the removed module's former value. Validate the chosen failsafe strategy before maintenance. -

What distinguishes a hardware-mismatch indication from too much cluster I/O data?
In CiModCi52x RuntimeError, bit 3 identifies a difference between configured and actual hardware; bit 4 identifies excessive I/O data. Check the physical configuration for the first case and split the data into another cluster for the second, as ABB directs.
