CI522-MODTCP links discrete signals and pulse acquisition

ABB CI522-MODTCP brings discrete input and output signals into a Modbus TCP remote station. It contains eight fixed digital inputs, eight fixed transistor outputs and eight configurable digital channels, with fast-counter functions for suitable pulse signals.

The standard interface is ordered as 1SAP222200R0001. Its register image, channel assignments and fault response must match the controller configuration. The ABB documentation supports remote I/O and engineered high-availability arrangements; an interface alone does not establish controller redundancy or a safety function.

    ABB warns that CI52x diagnostic information can be read only once. Synchronize diagnostic data in the application or handle it centrally in SCADA so independent reads do not create inconsistent histories.
  • Which mapping format is required by the CiModCi52x function block?

    ABB specifies Dynamic Mapping for this function block. Selecting Fixed Mapping can stop its communication with the module; verify this setting in Automation Builder rather than relying only on a valid IP address.
  • Does disabling the communication function block simulate a lost-interface alarm?

    No. ABB states that Enable = FALSE does not set the CI-module-lost RuntimeError bit in HaModControl. Test actual communications failure separately from a deliberate function-block disable.
