Description
The ABB SDCS-FEX-2A 3ADT311500R1 is a field exciter board for ABB DCS 500 and DCS 600 DC drive systems. It regulates the field current of DC motors to ensure stable and efficient motor operation. The board consists of a power part and a control board integrated into a single assembly.
The power part is built with two power modules, each containing one diode and one thyristor, wired as a half-controlled bridge. The single-phase AC input voltage range is 110 V to 500 V, with a maximum DC output current of 8 A for armature converters rated 25 A to 75 A, and 16 A for armature converters rated 100 A to 2000 A. The control unit automatically selects a lower current range between 3 A and 16 A for smaller field currents to achieve the best resolution.
The control is based on a fully digital system using an 80C198 microcontroller with PI current control structure. The software is stored in ROM memory. All control parameters are stored in the non-volatile memory of the armature converter and transferred to the field controller during each initialization process via the RS485 link. The Node number is fixed to Node 1.
