Description
The ABB SPAJ140C is a combined overcurrent and earth-fault protection relay engineered for selective short-circuit and earth-fault protection of radial feeders in solidly earthed, resistance earthed, or impedance earthed medium-voltage power systems. It integrates both phase overcurrent and earth-fault protection functions into a single unit, providing a comprehensive protection solution for distribution networks, transformers, capacitors, and motor feeders.
The relay incorporates two independent protection units: a three-phase overcurrent unit and an earth-fault unit. Each unit features a low-set stage and a high-set stage, allowing flexible coordination with upstream and downstream protection devices. The low-set stages offer both definite time and inverse definite minimum time (IDMT) characteristics, with six selectable curve sets including extremely inverse, very inverse, normal inverse, long-time inverse, RI-type inverse, and RXIDG-type inverse. The high-set stages provide instantaneous or definite time operation for rapid clearing of severe faults.

The high-set stage covers 0.5 to 40.0 times rated current or can be set to infinite (disabled).
