Description
The Allen-Bradley 1783-LMS8 is an Ethernet communication hardware. The 1783-LMS8 ships with a spring-loaded latch on the rear panel that enables quick and secure mounting on a standard DIN rail. To mount the 1783-LMS8, position the rear panel directly in front of the DIN rail, ensuring the rail fits in the space between the two hooks near the top of the switch and the spring-loaded latch near the bottom. Push the switch toward the DIN rail to cause the spring-loaded latch to move down and snap into place, securing the 1783-LMS8 firmly for reliable operation.

The 1783-LMS8 features a ground lug connection on the top panel for functional grounding. The ground screw is not supplied with the switch and requires a size 6 ring terminal, such as Hollingsworth part number R3456B or equivalent. The ground wire must be 10-gauge copper, and the ground screw must be tightened to a maximum torque of 0.51N·m. The other end of the ground wire should be attached to a grounded bare metal surface, such as a ground bus, grounded DIN rail, or grounded bare metal enclosure panel, ensuring proper safety and EMI protection for the 1783-LMS8.
The 1783-LMS8 is designed for installation in an industrial enclosure with specific clearance requirements to prevent overheating. The minimum clearances for the 1783-LMS8 are 50.8mm (2.0in.) at the top and bottom, 25.4mm (1.0in.) at the sides, and 50.8mm (2.0in.) at the front. The enclosure must have suitable flame-retardant properties with a flame spread rating of 5VA or be approved for the application if nonmetallic, and the interior must be accessible only by the use of a tool.

DIN Rail Mounting: Snap the switch onto a 35 mm DIN rail. Ensure there is a minimum airflow clearance of 50.8 mm (2.0 in.) at the top and bottom, and 25.4 mm (1.0 in.) on the sides to prevent overheating.
Grounding: Connect a 5.2...3.3 mm² (10...12 AWG) solid or stranded copper wire to the switch's functional ground lug. Secure the screw to 0.51 N⋅m (4.5 in⋅lb).
Power Connection: Wire the removable DC power terminal (PWR A/B) using 1.3...0.82 mm² (16...18 AWG) copper wire. Torque the terminal screws to a maximum of 0.5 N⋅m (4.42 lb⋅in). The switch requires 12...24V DC.

For wiring of ethernet connection, it requires use of am RJ45 connector that complies to the IEC 60603-7, 2 or 4 pair Category 5e minimum cable according to TIA 568-B.1 or Category 5 cable according to ISO/IEC 24702. For input power connection, recommended cable is 1.3…0.82 mm2 (16…18 AWG) solid or stranded copper wire with insulation rating of 30 degrees C (86 degrees F). For grounding connection, recommended wire is 5.2-3.3 mm2 (10...12 AWG) solid or stranded copper wire. Operate this switch at a temperature range of -20 degrees C - +60 degrees C (-4 degrees F < Ta < +140 degrees F).
