Additionally, they can be manufactured with hazardous area approved proximity probes with 21000 aluminum and 24701 stainless steel housings for intrinsically safe applications. Both housings are certified as CSA Type 4 enclosures and are fully compliant with the American Petroleum Institute's (API) 670 Standard for externally mounted proximity probe housings.
Sleeve length is determined by the location in which the probe and housing will be installed. The probe lead must be longer than the sleeve. Sleeve lengths longer than 304 mm (12 inches) require additional sleeve support to reduce the vibration associated with unsupported long sleeve lengths.

Mounting: Ensure the probe is mounted rigidly in a 3/8-24 UNF holder to avoid false vibration readings caused by sensor motion.
Cable Handling: The 0.5-meter cable must be connected to an extension cable and ultimately to a 7200 series proximitor (sensor). Avoid bending the coaxial cable at sharp angles.
Gap Setting: The probe must be gapped properly to operate within its linear range. A typical gap voltage for these types of Bently Nevada probes is between -9 V to -11 V DC, which usually corresponds to a center gap of approximately 1.27 mm (50 mils).
Verification: Monitor the gap voltage during startup to ensure the sensor is not contacting the shaft and is within the operational range.
