Description

The BENTLY NEVADA 330980-71-05 3300 XL NSv Proximitor Sensor is an electronic signal-conditioning module used in the 3300 XL NSv Proximity Transducer System. It works with a compatible 3300 NSv proximity probe and extension cable to provide non-contact measurement of shaft displacement and position in rotating machinery.

The 3300 XL NSv Proximitor Sensor has similarfeatures to those found in the 3300 XL 8 mmProximitor Sensor. Its thin design allows the userto mount it in either a high-density DIN-railinstallation or a more traditional panel mountconfiguration. Improved RFI/EMI immunityallows the 3300 XL NSv Proximitor Sensor toachieve European CE mark approvals withoutany special mounting considerations. This RFIimmunity also prevents nearby high frequencyradio signals from adversely affecting thetransducer system. SpringLoc terminal strips onthe Proximitor Sensor require no specialinstallation tools and facilitate faster, highlyrobust field wiring connections.

The complete 3300 XL NSv system consists of a 3300 NSv probe, 3300 NSv extension cable, and 3300 XL NSv Proximitor Sensor. The system is particularly suitable for applications where installation space is limited or where conventional 3300 XL 5 mm or 8 mm proximity transducer systems cannot be easily installed. It is also suitable for smaller shaft targets and compact machinery installations.

The 330980-71-05 Bently Nevada 3300 XL NSv Proximitor Sensor may still be available for purchase and support from Amikon Limited beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

The 330980-71-05 is part of a transducer system that provides an output voltage directly proportional to the distance between the probe tip and the observed conductive surface. The 330980-71-05 system has an Average Scale Factor of 7.87 V/mm (200 mV/mil), which is the most common output for eddy current transducers. The enhanced side view and small target characteristics of the 330980-71-05 system give it a shorter linear range than the Bently Nevada 3300 XL-series 5 and 8 mm Transducer System, with 1.5 mm (60 mils) of linear range.
The 330980-71-05 allows upgrades from the 3300RAM system to the 3300XL NSv system using the existing probe, extension cable, and monitoring system. The 330980-71-05 is also ideal for small target applications, such as measuring radial vibration on shafts smaller than 51 mm (2 in) or axial position on flat targets smaller than 15 mm (0.6 in). The 330980-71-05 is primarily used for radial vibration and radial position measurements, axial (thrust) position measurements, tachometer and zero speed measurements, and phase reference (Keyphasor signals) on fluid-filmed bearing machines where a small shaft or reduced side-view is present.
  • Oil/Gas: Deployed on offshore rigs, refineries, and LNG transport facilities
  • Power Generation: Used in nuclear, thermal, gas, and hydro plants for grid uptime
  • Chemical/Petrochemical: Installed in high-risk zones with ATEX/IECEx explosion-proof ratings
  • Mining/Refining: Used on ore crushers, blast furnace blowers, and rolling mill drives
  • Pulp/Paper/Water: Monitors wastewater pumps and large industrial drying rollers

Target Material: Standard calibration is set for AISI 4140 steel, but can be tailored to other materials.
Sensing Distance & Gap: The linear range is typically 1.5 mm (60 mils). Ensure the probe is positioned mechanically so that the DC gap voltage is around -9 V to -11 V when the machine shaft is centered in its bearing.
Clearance Restrictions: Unlike standard 8mm probes, the NSv probe minimizes side-view and counterbore interference, allowing it to be mounted closer to machine casing walls.
Locking & Protection: The probe uses Bently Nevada's patented CableLoc design. Secure the probe tip-to-cable bond, and optionally use connector protectors to keep moisture out.

Technical notes

For the specified 3300 XL NSv transducer system, the recommended probe gap is approximately 1.0 mm / 40 mils. The system provides a 1.5 mm / 60 mil linear range, approximately from 0.25 mm to 1.75 mm from the target, with the electrical output varying according to the probe-to-target distance. The nominal scale factor is approximately 7.87 V/mm, equivalent to 200 mV/mil.

FAQs

  • Can I mix and match probes and extension cables with this sensor?

    +
No. Bently Nevada systems rely on calibrated electrical lengths. The electrical length of the installed probe plus the electrical length of the extension cable must exactly equal the total calibrated electrical length of the Proximitor Sensor (in this case, 7 meters).
  • What is the proper gap voltage?

    +
When properly gapped and with the machine's shaft centered, the normal gap voltage range for this proximitor sensor system is between -9 V and -11 V DC.
  • What is the 3300 XL NSv system used for?

    +
It is primarily used in locations where standard Bently Nevada 5mm and 8mm probes cannot fit due to restricted side-view or counterbore limitations. It is ideal for measuring radial vibration on small shafts (smaller than 51 mm) and axial position on small targets
  • Can I use different length cables and probes together?

    +
No, all three components of the transducer system (Proximitor Sensor, extension cable, and probe) must have consistent electrical lengths. The electrical length of the probe plus the electrical length of the extension cable must match the calibrated length of the Proximitor.
