Description

The 21501-00-16-05-02 is a 3300 series 5 mm standard mount proximity probe with a 1/4-28 UNF thread and stainless steel armor. The 21501-00-16-05-02 uses smaller physical packaging while providing the same linear range as an 8 mm probe. The 21501-00-16-05-02 is used when physical constraints preclude the use of an 8 mm probe, such as mounting between thrust bearing pads or other constrained spaces.

The 21501-00-16-05-02 features a 0.0-inch unthreaded length and a 1.6-inch overall case length. The total probe cable length on the 21501-00-16-05-02 is 0.5 meter, with a 75 Ω triaxial FEP-insulated cable terminating in a connector with connector protector. The probe tip of the 21501-00-16-05-02 is made of polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), and the probe case is constructed from AISI 303 or 304 stainless steel. The stainless steel armor on the 21501-00-16-05-02 provides improved resistance to physical abuse.

When combined with a 3300 XL Proximitor Sensor and XL extension cable, the 21501-00-16-05-02 provides an output voltage directly proportional to the distance between the probe tip and the observed conductive surface. The system using the 21501-00-16-05-02 can measure both static (position) and dynamic (vibration) data. Its primary use is in vibration and position measurement applications on fluid-film bearing machines, as well as Keyphasor and speed measurement applications.
The 21501-00-16-05-02 delivers a linear range of 2 mm (80 mils), beginning at approximately 0.25 mm from the target surface. The incremental scale factor of the 21501-00-16-05-02 is 7.87 V/mm (200 mV/mil) ±6.5% typical, including interchangeability error when measured in increments of 0.25 mm over the linear range. The deviation from the best fit straight line is less than ±0.038 mm (±1.5 mil) typical. Over the probe temperature range of –51°C to +177°C, the incremental scale factor remains within ±10% of 7.87 V/mm, and the deviation from the best fit straight line remains within ±0.076 mm (±3 mils).
  • Oil & Gas: Monitors compressors, pumps, and gas turbines
  • Power Generation: Tracks vibration in steam and hydroelectric turbines
  • Industrial Manufacturing: Protects rotating equipment in paper, mining, and water treatment
  • Radial Vibration: Monitors bearings, detects rotor imbalance or shaft misalignment
  • Axial Thrust: Measures rotor displacement to determine thrust bearing wear

Cable Connections: Ensure all coaxial connectors (typically miniature or standard bayonet/screw connectors) are clean and securely threaded together. Hand-tighten and use safety wire or protective boots to prevent vibration loosening if necessary.
Proximitor Terminals: The Proximitor has three main terminal connections:
COM (Common/Return): Connected to the system common (tied to the -24V power supply return).
SIG (Signal Output): Transmits the vibration/position signal to the monitoring system/data acquisition rack.
-24 VDC (Power): Supplies the required negative bias voltage for the Proximitor to operate.

Technical notes

The 21501-00-16-05-02 operates within a probe temperature range of –51°C to +177°C (–60°F to +351°F). Exposing the 21501-00-16-05-02 to temperatures below –34°C (–30°F) may cause premature failure of the pressure seal. The minimum cable bend radius for the 21501-00-16-05-02 is 25.4 mm (1.0 in). The probe case torque is 5.1 N·m (45 in·lbf) recommended and 7.3 N·m (65 in·lbf) maximum. The maximum thread engagement for the 21501-00-16-05-02 is 0.375 in.

FAQs

  • What is the 21501-00-16-05-02 ?

    +
The Bently Nevada 21501-00-16-05-02 is a highly reliable, non-contacting proximity probe from the 7200 Series used for measuring vibration, position, and speed of rotating machinery
  • What does the model number 21501-00-16-05-02 signify?

    +
The part number denotes a specific configuration for the 7200 series 11mm or 5mm probe. It dictates the probe's thread size, body style, cable length, and connector type so it perfectly matches your proximity transducer and extension cable system.
  • What systems are compatible with this probe?

    +
This 7200 Series probe is designed to work as a complete system that includes the probe itself, a coaxial extension cable, and a Proximitor sensor. All components must be matched (e.g., in impedance) to ensure accurate machine diagnostics.
  • What target material is this probe calibrated for?

    +
By default, Bently Nevada 7200 Series sensors are factory-calibrated to AISI E4140 steel. Using it on other metals can alter the system's target sensitivity, meaning a recalibration or correction factor may be necessary if monitoring alternative target materials.
