FAQs

  • What is the A6210 ?+
The Emerson A6210 is a Thrust Position, Differential Expansion, and Rod Position Monitor used within the Emerson AMS 6500 Machinery Health Monitor system for turbomachinery protection.
  • What does the A6210 monitor?+
The A6210 is a multi-mode monitor that can operate in three distinct modes: thrust position, differential expansion, or rod position. It uses non-contact displacement sensors to measure shaft position and compare it against alarm setpoints for machinery protection.
  • Why is shaft thrust monitoring important?+
Shaft thrust monitoring is a critical measurement for turbomachinery, as sudden or small axial movements must be detected rapidly (within 40 milliseconds or less) to prevent rotor-to-case contact and minimize machinery damage.
  • What are the primary applications of the A6210?+
It serves as a 3-in-1 module: Thrust Position (axial shaft position), Differential Expansion, or Rod Position (for reciprocating compressors), typically supporting redundant sensor inputs for high reliability.
  • What are the measurement specs?+
It features two independent transducer inputs for Eddy Current Probes (0 to -22 VDC input range) and provides raw, buffered outputs (0 - 10 VDC) for analysis.

  • 2 independent channels
  • Tandem mode
  • Cone measurement
  • Front and rear buffered and proportional outputs, 0/4-20 mA output, 0-10 V output
  • Case Seismic Vibration Monitor
The Emerson A6210 is a specialized plug-in monitor card for the AMS 6500 Machinery Health Monitor (formerly EPRO), providing crucial API 670 compliant protection for critical rotating equipment. It measures thrust position, differential expansion, or rod position, with sub-40ms response times for safety critical applications.

The Case Seismic VibrationMonitor, for use with electromechanical seismic transducers,is designed for high reliability forthe plant’s most critical rotatingmachinery. This 1-slot monitor isused together with other CSI 6500monitors to build a completeAPI 670 machinery protectionmonitor. Applications includesteam, gas, compressors andhydro turbomachinery. Casemeasurements are common innuclear power applications. The main functionality of theCase Seismic Vibration Monitoris to accurately monitor caseseismic vibration and reliablyprotect machinery by comparingvibration parameters againstalarm setpoints, driving alarmsand relays.

The A6210 EMERSON Case Seismic Vibration Monitor may still be available for purchase and support from Amikon Limited beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Case seismic vibration sensors, sometimes called case absolute(not to be confused with shaftabsolute), are electro-dynamic,internal spring and magnet, velocity output type sensors. The case seismic vibrationmonitor provides overallvibration monitoring for thebearing case in velocity,mm/sec (in/sec).

Since the sensor is mounted onthe case, the resultant vibrationof the case could be influencedby many different sourcesincluding rotor movement, foundation and casestiffness, blade vibration, adjacent machines, etc. When replacing field sensors, many sensors are being updatedwith piezoelectric-type sensorsthat provide internal integrationfrom acceleration to velocity. The piezoelectric-type sensor isa newer style electronic sensor, instead of an older electromechanical sensor. The CaseSeismic Vibration Monitor isbackward-compatible to theelectro-mechanical sensorsinstalled in the field.

The CSI 6500 Machinery HealthMonitor is an integral part ofPlantWeb® and AMS Suite.PlantWeb provides operationsintegrated machinery healthcombined with the Ovation®and DeltaV™ process controlsystem. AMS Suite providesmaintenance personnel advancedpredictive and performancediagnostic tools to confidentlyand accurately determinemachine malfunctions early.
  • Turbomachinery Monitoring:Protects steam, gas, and hydro turbines from catastrophic failure.
  • Compressors and Pumps:Monitors radial/axial shaft displacement, eccentricity, and speed.
  • High-Density Monitoring: Ideal for high-density DIN-rail installs with 11mm probe.
  • Industrial Motors:Used for monitoring and protecting large rotating motors.
  • Condition Monitoring:Provides data for predictive diagnostics via PlantWeb & AMS.

Thrust Position: Monitors axial shaft position and triggers alarms to prevent rotor-to-case contact.
Differential Expansion: Measures the relative thermal expansion between the machine case and the shaft using tandem/complementary or cone/ramp modes.
Rod Position (Rod Drop): Monitors rider band wear in reciprocating compressors by tracking the drop of the piston rod.
