The Multilin™ 489 Generator Protection System, a member of the SR family of relays,provides protection, control and advanced communications in a cost effective industryleading draw-out construction. Designed for small and medium sized generators, the 489delivers advanced protection including generator stator differential protection. The 489also includes detailed diagnostic information allowing for reduced troubleshooting time.
The 489-P5-HI-A20-E GE Generator Management Relay System may still be available for purchase and support from Amikon Limited beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

The 489-P5-HI-A20-E is a generator management relay that is manufactured by GE Multilin as part of the 489 Generator Management Series. This relay has 5A phase CT secondaries and a HI control power of 90-300 VDC and 70265 VAC at 48-62 Hz. The analog outputs on this relay are 4 to 20 mA. This 489-P5-HI-A20-E relay has an enhanced display with a larger LCD than the basic display generally serves as an upgrade from the 489-P5-HI-A20 basic display version. The 489-P5-HI-A20-E is the most installed relay in the 489 Generator Protection Series and as a result is a high demand relay. The 489-P5-HI-A20-E has the following features built-in to the relay.

AdvancedCT saturation detection algorithmsmaintain immunity to saturationconditions that may be caused due toexternal disturbances through the use of adirectional check that provides additionalsupervision and ensures the fault isinternal to the generator before triggeringit to trip.
