What the 10024/H/I actually does
The 10024/H/I is not a generic serial converter. It is a model-specific Enhanced Communication Module (ECM) for the Honeywell Fail Safe Control (FSC) platform.
The ECM family offloads communication work from the FSC central processor through its own processor and memory. Depending on the loaded application and the engineered system, the family supports functions such as FSC-to-FSC communication, connections with DCS equipment and peripherals, sequence-of-events recording, report generation and supported serial protocols.
The suffixes define the physical interfaces. On the 10024/H/I, the upper A channel is the H interface—RS‑422 with readback—while the lower B channel is the I interface, an isolated RS‑485/RS‑422 port. That distinction is the first thing to verify during replacement because visually similar 10024 variants can use RS‑232C or fiber interfaces instead.
H and I are different electrical paths
Use the selector to compare the two channels. The values below describe the physical-interface limits documented for the module; the protocol, baud rate and addressing must still match the installed FSC application.
RS‑422 with readback
The H interface is designed for the dedicated RS‑422 path used by the engineered FSC communication arrangement. It is rated up to 2 Mbaud and uses a male 9-pin connector.
Isolated RS‑485 / RS‑422
The I interface provides galvanic isolation greater than 6 kV and supports the longer multidrop or point-to-point serial path defined by the FSC design.
Cable length falls as baud rate rises
For the isolated I interface, the published limits assume suitable cable and correct termination. Treat them as design ceilings, not a substitute for checking the installed drawing, cable type, shielding, grounding and topology.
Honeywell’s hardware documentation states that the module must not be removed or replaced while power is applied to its Central Part. Plan the isolation, backup and controlled restart before physical work begins.
Honeywell FSC series: hardware context
Context note: This video shows a related product from the Honeywell FSC series, not the 10024/H/I. Use it to understand the wider hardware family only; verify the 10024/H/I label, H/I interface positions, model ID and installed configuration from the article before procurement.
Configuration lives beyond the part number
A correct label is necessary, but it does not prove that a spare can be inserted without preparation. The 10024 main board can use flash memory or EPROMs, and its jumpers define module numbering and program source. The system-bus arrangement also matters: a Central Part system-bus jumper is removed when a new communication module is installed.
Pass four purchase gates
A spare should move to approval only after all four gates are documented in the quotation and supporting evidence.

10024/H/I FAQs
Can the 10024/H/I replace a 10024/I/I?
Not as a direct like-for-like substitution. The H/I model has one H interface and one isolated I interface; the I/I model has two isolated I interfaces. Confirm the engineered channel functions and wiring before considering any change.
Does the I interface support both RS‑422 and RS‑485?
Yes. Honeywell identifies the I interface as an isolated RS‑485/RS‑422 interface. Its actual operating mode, protocol, baud rate and topology depend on the installed configuration.
Is 1.2 km always acceptable at 100 kbaud?
No. It is a documented maximum under the specified interface conditions. Cable type, termination, shielding, grounding, noise and network topology still need engineering verification.
What information should be sent with an inquiry?
Send photos of the front and side labels, module ID, revision details, flash/EPROM arrangement, jumper positions, required quantity and the planned shutdown date. Include the installed FSC configuration when available.
