ABB’s NEMA Motors Division recently announced the successful migration of its 29-year-old SAP Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to the Google Cloud platform. This milestone digital transformation not only achieved a seamless transition with zero business disruption in under 48 hours but also established an agile and efficient foundation for smart manufacturing and digital innovation through the deep integration of cloud-native architecture and full-stack artificial intelligence capabilities.
The migration involved 23 terabytes of core business data, supporting 4,600 users across 70 countries. As the digital backbone that has supported business operations since 1996, the successful migration of this highly customized system was completed without any impact on global manufacturing operations or customer service.
Beyond a Technology Upgrade: Delivering Strategic Value and Rapid ROI
This transformation is more than an IT infrastructure upgrade—it represents a strategic shift toward a future-ready operational model for ABB NEMA Motors. By eliminating the constraints of legacy hardware, the division expects to achieve a full return on investment within 18 months.
