Description

The GSI 122/130 galvanic separation unit is used forsupplying transducers and conditioners and for reading off signals given by them.It is used in 2-wire transmission systems. In a moregeneral application it serves for supplying any electronic system with a consumption of less than 20 mA.This unit outputs a voltage signal proportional to thecurrent consumed by the conditioner. This voltagesignal is directly available for analysis of the conditioner signal.

The GSI 122/130 module avoids any problems dueto voltage differences between the measuring pointand the signal processing (e.g. earth loops). The GSI 122 Version 20x conforms to the CENELECand CSA standards concerning the powering of transducers and conditioners mounted in explosive areas. The use of the GSI 122/130 in an installation avoidsthe need to mount Zener barriers, which generateadditional voltages drops and limit the length of thetransmission line and the dynamic range of the system.

Signal Conditioning & Conversion: Converts a 2-wire current-modulated input into a standard proportional voltage signal
Electrical Isolation : Provides essential electrical isolation between the sensor/field measuring chain and your control or monitoring system, preventing ground loops and electrical interference.
Long-Distance Transmission: Supports 2-wire transmission techniques, allowing for clean, reliable signal transmission between the field sensor and monitoring electronics over long distances.
  • Gas Turbine Combustor Monitoring:Tracks dynamic pressure pulsations to prevent acoustic fatigue
  • Power Generation Facilities:Nuclear/hydro/thermal: safeguards high-vibration zones
  • Oil Refining and Petrochemical Processing:Tracks rapid pressure fluctuations in compressors/pumps
  • Automated Assembly Lines:Step-by-step diagnostics & cycle tracking for auto/electronics
  • Hazardous Industrial Zones:Class I Div2: oil/gas, chemical mixers & paint booths
This content has been produced using multiple sources.Amikon takes no responsibility for the accuracy of this information. Always consult the original equipment manufacturer for the most up to date instructions and information.
Grounding: Always connect the chassis or DIN rail to a clean, low-impedance earth to ensure proper noise shielding and safety.
Input : Connect the signal and return lines from your transducer (e.g., IPC 704 signal conditioner) to the designated input terminals on the GSI 130. Ensure the shielding of the cable is properly terminated on the ground lug.
Output : Connect the isolated output terminals to your monitoring system . The GSI 130 typically operates with a transfer function of 1 V/mA (translating current signals into standard voltage signals).
Power Supply: Connect the DC power source (usually 24 VDC) to the respective power terminals, paying close attention to the correct polarity.

Technical notes

The GSI130 extends signal transmission distances up to 1 kilometre when used with current output configurations, maintaining signal integrity over long cable runs. The unit operates on 24 VDC power supply or in loop-powered configurations depending on the specific variant. Environmental operation spans –20°C to +60°C with storage capability from –25°C to +70°C. The IP20 protection rating designates the unit for indoor control cabinet installation.

FAQs

  • What is the difference between the GSI 130 and GSI 122?

    +
The GSI 122 is specifically designed for explosive atmospheres requiring intrinsic safety (Ex i), whereas the GSI 130 is intended for standard, non-explosive (non-Ex i) industrial applications.
  • What is the recommended power supply?

    +
The unit requires a nominal supply voltage of +24 V ±5% and consumes very little power since it is principally designed to serve electronic systems that draw less than 20 mA.
  • What is the signal pass-band range?

    +
    The pass-band is generally DC to 10 kHz (± 0.5%), with a -1 dB drop-off at 20 kHz.
