Description

There are two versions offered in the ProTech 203 Overspeed Protection series by Woodward: de-energize-to-trip and energize-to-trip. Model 8200-203 is the 120 Vac/dc input model of the de-energize-to-trip versions. This model consists of three separate, identical speed-sensing units, each with its own power supply. These units sense prime mover speed through magnetic pickups and perform individual speed calculations, which are then used in a two-out-of-three hardware vote.

Model 8200-203 has a rich feature set, including remote reset, LED performance indicators, built-in self-test, an alarm output, and a key lock.

The 8200-203 is a ProTech® 203 electronic two-out-of-three Overspeed Protection System manufactured by Woodward. The 8200-203 is a digital overspeed trip device that senses prime mover speed through three magnetic pickups (MPUs) and consists of three identical, independent speed-sensing units which continuously monitor prime mover speed and activate a trip relay when an overspeed condition is detected. The trip relays of the three units in the 8200-203 are connected in a two-out-of-three voting configuration so that if any single unit fails, the 8200-203 will still provide the correct output, ensuring reliable overspeed protection at all times.

The 8200-203 is a de-energize-to-trip model, which Woodward strongly recommends for reasons of general safety. With the 8200-203, the prime mover will trip on loss of power, preventing potential property damage, personal injury, or loss of life. The 8200-203 can be configured to operate with numerous power sources, with each unit containing an independent power supply module.
