Description
The Yokogawa ALR121-S50 S1 Serial Communication Module is a serial communication module for FIO (Field Input/Output) that a field control station (FCS) uses to perform serial communication with subsystems such as FA-M3, Modbus devices, MELSEC-A PLCs, SLC 500, PLC-5, and YS instruments. ALR121 is equipped with two RS-422/RS-485 communication ports that transmit and receive serial data between the FCS and connected subsystems.
ALR121 supports multiple communication protocols including FA-M3 dedicated control protocol, Modbus protocol (RTU mode), MELSEC-A dedicated control protocol format 4, DF1 protocol for SLC communication, and PLC-5 family dedicated half-duplex protocol. ALR121 enables an FCS to collect data from subsystems or set data to subsystems using builder functions, with each communication port supporting a maximum of 30 subsystem stations for FA-M3, Modbus, MELSEC-A, SLC, and PLC-5 communications.

ALR121 uniquely features YS Communication with Direct Connection, allowing ALR121 communication ports to connect directly with YS1000 SERIES and YS100 SERIES instruments via RS-485 cable without requiring an SCIU Communication Interface Unit. ALR121 can connect up to 20 YS instruments (10 units per port) in direct connection mode, with configurable scan speed parameters for fast-scan and slow-scan data specified through builder functions.
For expanded YS instrument networks, ALR121 also supports YS Communication via SCIU Communication Interface Units. ALR121 can connect up to 20 SCIU units (10 units per port), with each SCIU supporting up to 4 YS instruments through DCS-LCS connections, allowing ALR121 to integrate larger YS instrument networks in distributed control applications.
