CI502-PNIO connects configurable digital field signals
ABB CI502-PNIO connects a digital S500 remote station to PROFINET IO RT. It provides eight dedicated digital inputs, eight dedicated transistor outputs and eight configurable digital input/output channels, allowing the engineered station to accommodate different combinations of status signals and commands.
Standard order 1SAP220700R0001 is distinct from CI502-PNIO-XC. The programmable DC channels are digital I/O, not analog converters. Their circuit and supply relationship must be checked before connection, particularly where an external source could backfeed the output supply.

Separate fixed I/O from user-assigned DC channels
ABB CI502-PNIO connects a digital S500 remote station to PROFINET IO RT. It provides eight dedicated digital inputs, eight dedicated transistor outputs and eight configurable digital input/output channels, allowing the engineered station to accommodate different combinations of status signals and commands.
The terminal unit is TU507-ETH or TU508-ETH. DC0-DC7 occupy terminals 1.0-1.7, while the other rows provide fixed digital inputs and outputs. Check labels and the complete terminal drawing rather than assuming that DC means an analog range.
The user program determines the configurable-channel function. Preserve its mapping and input-delay settings, review the relationship of external sources to UP3 and check the selected output loads against the applicable switching limits.

Does the label DC0-DC7 mean CI502-PNIO has analog conversion channels?
No. These are configurable digital input/output channels. ABB lists eight DC channels in addition to eight fixed digital inputs and eight fixed digital outputs; analog sensing requires an appropriate separate I/O module. -
May a separately powered sensor drive a DC terminal when UP3 is switched off?
ABB warns that an external voltage on a DC terminal can backfeed other outputs even when that DC channel is used as an input. Use the documented UP3-related source arrangement and assess supply cut-off behavior before wiring the sensor. -
How can contact chatter be reduced without changing the field switch?
