PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

DA501 combines mixed field signals in one module

ABB DA501 combines sixteen digital inputs, eight configurable digital input/output channels, four analog inputs and two analog outputs in one S500 module. It supports mixed field signals on a TU515 or TU516 terminal unit within an engineered AC500 installation.

Order 1SAP250700R0001 identifies the standard DA501. The analog inputs support voltage, current and specified resistance-temperature sensors, while the outputs provide voltage or current commands. Verify every terminal reference, signal range and controller configuration before connecting field equipment.
ACTUAL APPLICATIONS

Where DA501 combines measurements and field commands

ABB documents mixed digital signals, electrical and RTD measurements, analog outputs and an integrated counter. The following are functional integration scenarios, not named customer case studies.
  • 01 · MIXED MEASUREMENTS

    Collect electrical and temperature signals

Bring voltage, current and supported RTD measurements into the same station as discrete field states. Configure each analog range independently and connect its specified reference terminal. Compare the resulting controller values with known field signals before relying on them in the process.
  • 02 · ANALOG COMMANDS

Send matched commands to receiving equipment

Use the two analog outputs for compatible voltage or current command inputs. Match each receiver to its configured range, reference connection and allowable load. Verify command polarity and response with the connected equipment under controlled commissioning conditions.
  • 03 · PULSE SEQUENCING

Integrate counting with discrete field control

Use the documented fast-counter function with DC16 and DC17 as inputs and DC18 as its output. Check the 50 kHz limit and host compatibility before assigning field circuits. ABB excludes this counter function when the module operates behind an FBP or CS31 bus interface.

MIXED SIGNAL INTEGRATION

Coordinate electrical ranges and terminal references

ABB DA501 combines sixteen digital inputs, eight configurable digital input/output channels, four analog inputs and two analog outputs in one S500 module. It supports mixed field signals on a TU515 or TU516 terminal unit within an engineered AC500 installation.
The analog bank shares a module with fixed digital inputs and configurable channels. Voltage and current circuits use different documented references; preserve an explicit wiring schedule and do not treat all common terminals as interchangeable.
Check the controller and interface arrangement before using the integrated fast counter. Validate analog readings, analog command loads and configurable digital directions together in the commissioned station.

Features:

  • Match standard order 1SAP250700R0001
  • Verify TU515 or TU516 terminal compatibility
  • Document analog ranges and signal references
The ABB DA501 requires coordinated mixed-signal wiring and a validated host arrangement before system integration and commissioning.
INTERCHANGEABILITY

Verify the complete replacement identity before commissioning

ABB lists standard DA501 order 1SAP250700R0001 as Active in revision 14 dated 2025-11-28. DA501-XC uses a separate order number and environmental specification; it is not an assumed equivalent.
Retain the controller project, analog ranges, configurable digital directions and counter assignments before replacement. Compare the installed terminal unit and field-reference connections with the incoming standard module.
Isolate voltages for replacement, preserve cabinet cooling and apply the mounting-dependent output derating. Confirm measured values and output commands with the connected equipment before returning the station to operation.

Features:

  • Verify the standard DA501 ordering identity
  • Preserve analog ranges and terminal references
  • Recheck mixed-signal operation after replacement
The ABB DA501 requires replacement verification of its field wiring, signal configuration and host compatibility before commissioning.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions buyers ask about DA501

Direct answers about identity, compatibility, stock, warranty, payment and shipping.
  • Why is a DA501 fast counter unavailable behind an FBP or CS31 interface?

ABB explicitly excludes fast-counter operation when DA501 is connected to an FBP interface module or CS31 bus module. Check the host arrangement before reserving DC16/DC17 and DC18 for counting.
  • How are the sixteen fixed inputs separated from DA501 configurable terminals?

DI0-DI7 occupy terminals 1.0-1.7 and DI8-DI15 occupy 2.0-2.7. The eight configurable DC16-DC23 channels occupy 4.0-4.7; keep these banks distinct in the field-wiring schedule.
  • Must all four DA501 analog inputs use the same sensor range?

No. ABB allows each analog input to be configured individually for the documented voltage, current or Pt100, Pt1000 and Ni1000 ranges. Select the actual sensor type and corresponding wiring for each channel.
  • Where must the analog reference move when changing a channel from voltage to current measurement?

Voltage and RTD inputs reference terminal 3.4, AI-. Current measurement references the documented ZP terminals 1.9, 2.9, 3.9 and 4.9. Recheck the wiring as well as the configured range.
  • Why should the cabinet heat calculation include DA501 with its outputs unloaded?

ABB specifies up to 6 W internal dissipation with outputs unloaded. An unloaded output circuit is not evidence that the module contributes no cabinet heat; preserve the required natural convection.
  • Does short-circuit protection make DA501 suitable for continuous 35 V operation?

No. The no-damage statement for an incorrectly connected input is not an operating-supply rating. The documented process supply remains 24 V DC within its specified tolerance, and temporary protection limits are not continuous operating conditions.
  • Are the signal common and cable shield interchangeable connections?

No. ABB distinguishes signal grounds from functional earth and cable shields. Follow the device-specific signal references; connect shielding and cabinet metalwork according to the system EMC instructions rather than using a signal common as a substitute.
  • What happens to the other digital channels when several outputs are overloaded?

ABB states that each digital output has an individual intelligent high-side switch and that multiple overloads do not affect the other channels. Supply capacity, wiring protection and the stated group-current limit still require independent checks.
