PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

DA502 combines digital actuation with analog field signals

ABB DA502 combines sixteen fixed transistor outputs with eight configurable digital input/output channels, four analog inputs and two analog outputs. This S500 module supports output-oriented field stations that also need electrical or temperature measurements.

The standard DA502 is order 1SAP250800R0001 and uses TU515 or TU516 terminal units. Match the fixed-output bank, configurable channels and analog signal ranges to the controller project. Observe the group-current limits instead of multiplying a single-channel rating across every output.
ACTUAL APPLICATIONS

Where DA502 supports output-oriented field stations

The documented output banks and analog channels support the following integration tasks. Select the actual field circuits and validate their behavior; no named customer installation is implied.
  • 01 · OUTPUT SEQUENCING

    Command multiple discrete field loads

Connect separate 24 V field loads to the fixed transistor-output bank. Build the load schedule around the documented 4 A bank limit rather than the sum of individual channel ratings. Apply the required mounting derating and verify each commanded circuit before automatic operation.
  • 02 · ANALOG FEEDBACK

Pair measured feedback with analog commands

Acquire documented voltage, current or RTD measurements while issuing compatible analog command signals. Match each receiver and sensor to its configured range and reference terminal. Validate the relationship between commanded values and returned measurements in the actual control application.
  • 03 · MIXED FIELD STATES

Allocate configurable channels to local needs

Use the eight configurable digital channels for the required mix of field-state inputs and transistor outputs. Preserve their separate bank assignment in the project and wiring schedule. Check the input waveform and output-bank loading with the installed equipment before release.

OUTPUT-ORIENTED MIXED I/O

Match output banks, analog circuits and controller settings

ABB DA502 combines sixteen fixed transistor outputs with eight configurable digital input/output channels, four analog inputs and two analog outputs. This S500 module supports output-oriented field stations that also need electrical or temperature measurements.
The fixed DO0-DO15 bank and configurable DC16-DC23 bank have separate documented current limits. Do not assume all fixed outputs can simultaneously supply their individual maximum rating.
Record voltage or current selection and the associated reference terminal for every analog channel. Preserve configured digital directions and confirm that the required fast-counter function is supported by the host arrangement.

Features:

  • Match standard order 1SAP250800R0001
  • Calculate the actual output-bank loading
  • Verify analog references and configured ranges
The ABB DA502 requires an output-bank load calculation and an explicit mixed-signal wiring schedule before system integration and commissioning.
INTERCHANGEABILITY

Verify the complete replacement identity before commissioning

ABB identifies standard DA502 order 1SAP250800R0001 as Active in datasheet revision 14 dated 2025-11-28. The separately ordered XC version must not be substituted solely on the basis of its similar name.
Record the terminal unit, fixed-output wiring, configurable digital directions, analog settings and controller project before replacement. The sixteen fixed outputs make DA502 different from a mixed-I/O module with fixed input banks.
Perform replacement with voltages isolated. Check protection, natural convection and mounting derating, then validate commanded loads and measured feedback before releasing the system.

Features:

  • Verify the standard DA502 order identity
  • Preserve fixed-output and configurable-bank assignments
  • Test load commands and analog feedback after exchange
The ABB DA502 requires replacement verification of its output architecture, analog configuration and installation conditions before commissioning.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions buyers ask about DA502

Direct answers about identity, compatibility, stock, warranty, payment and shipping.
  • Can all sixteen fixed DA502 outputs deliver 500 mA at the same time?

No. Although each channel is rated 500 mA at 24 V, ABB limits the DO0-DO15 bank to 4 A total before applicable derating. Sixteen loads at 500 mA would exceed that bank limit.
  • Would replacing DA501 with DA502 preserve the first two digital terminal banks?

No. DA502 has sixteen fixed outputs where DA501 has sixteen fixed inputs. Review the complete hardware and wiring design; a similar mixed-I/O format is not evidence of interchangeability.
  • Does the DA502 bipolar voltage selection also provide a negative-current output range?

No. ABB lists -10 to +10 V as the bipolar voltage range but only 0-20 mA and 4-20 mA for current output. Do not configure a receiving circuit on the assumption of a bipolar current source.
  • Should the 0.04 A2s power-up figure be entered as a continuous current demand?

No. It is the specified inrush integral at UP during power-up. Use the separate consumption figure, 0.07 A plus connected digital output load, when evaluating steady operation.
  • Can a machine specification quote a guaranteed DA502 digital switching delay from this datasheet?

Not from the listed table alone. ABB marks the digital output transition delay as on request. Obtain the required manufacturer timing information before committing to a machine-level delay guarantee.
  • Are the fixed DO0-DO15 channels convertible to inputs by changing the program?

No. The documented software-configurable channels are DC16-DC23. DO0-DO15 are the fixed transistor-output bank and should remain assigned as outputs in the hardware design.
  • Will changing an analog input from voltage to current leave the source loading unchanged?

No. ABB specifies more than 100 kohm for voltage input and approximately 330 ohm for current input. Check the connected source, wiring and range before changing the measurement mode.
  • Can the digital-input ripple cross the undefined band if its average voltage looks correct?

The average alone is not the stated criterion. ABB requires low-state ripple to remain within -3 to +5 V and high-state ripple within +15 to +30 V for the configurable digital input. Assess the waveform at the field terminal.
