PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Modbus RTU communication for compatible ABB drives
ABB NWPM-01 connects a compatible ABB drive to a Modbus RTU master through a two-wire RS-485 network. A separate optical DDCS link connects the adapter to the drive, allowing supervisory commands, reference values and operating information to pass between the systems.
Configuration must match the connected drive, station address, communication speed and register mapping. When replacing an NMBA-01 arrangement, review the changed holding-register allocation rather than assuming identical operation. Installation also requires the documented external supply, earthing, bus termination and safe isolation procedures.

NWPM-01 transfers commands, references and operating information between a Modbus master and a documented compatible drive. These are supported communication functions, not claims of installation at a named factory.

01 · SUPERVISORY DRIVE CONTROL
PLC-controlled drive start and speed reference
Within a documented compatible drive system, NWPM-01 conveys the Modbus master's operating commands and speed or torque reference to the drive. The controller program must use the correct holding-register mapping and the drive must select fieldbus control as its command source. -
02 · PROCESS REGULATION
Drive PID reference and actual-value exchange
The adapter can transfer a process reference or actual value to the connected drive's PID controller where that drive supports the documented function. This is a communication interface for the configured control system, not an independent process sensor or PID controller. -
03 · MAINTENANCE MONITORING
Remote drive status and parameter access
The Modbus host can read drive operating values and status, access supported parameters and issue a documented fault reset. Diagnostic LEDs and message counters help distinguish network errors from a missing optical response; available drive functions remain configuration-dependent.

Check the drive and Modbus communication configuration
The manufacturer lists ACS800 SingleDrive, ACS800 MultiDrive and ACS 600 compatibility. Connect the drive-side optical DDCS link and the master-side RS-485 bus as separate interfaces; neither a matching connector nor the ABB brand establishes compatibility with other drives.
The external supply is 24 V DC with a +/-10% tolerance. Set a unique station address, matching baud rate and parity. Use the supported Modbus RTU register mapping and select the fieldbus adapter as the source of the required drive commands.
Install on an earthed standard rail with the required clearance and operating conditions. Enable termination only at a bus end, protect the optical cables and follow the drive-specific isolation procedure before installation or service.

Which ABB drives are listed as compatible with NWPM-01?

Does NWPM-01 support Modbus ASCII?

What does a continuously flashing ERROR LED indicate?

Can it be mounted directly beside another device?
