Regenerative-energy braking for compatible Bulletin 1336 drives
Allen-Bradley 1336-WB035 is a brake chopper module for compatible Bulletin 1336 drive installations in the 380, 415 and 460 V AC voltage class. It switches an external braking resistor across the drive DC bus to dissipate regenerative energy.
Select the chopper and resistor together using the motor, load inertia, braking torque and duty cycle. Installation requires the specified enclosure, ventilation, wiring and fault monitoring; this module is not a standalone motor drive or a mechanical holding brake.

Is 1336-WB035 itself a complete variable-frequency drive?
No. It is a braking chopper supplied from a compatible drive DC bus and used with an external braking resistor. The drive, motor and braking-system selection must be checked together. -
Can I select a resistor below nine ohms to obtain more braking?
No. The official WB035 minimum is nine ohms. A lower resistance can exceed the chopper transistor current rating and damage the equipment; resistance and wattage both require calculation. -
Does the 115 W figure specify the required resistor wattage?
No. It describes heat dissipated by the chopper at continuous duty. The external resistor must be sized from peak regenerative power, average braking energy and its thermal capability. -
How is the input-voltage setting selected?
For WB035, jumper W2 selects 415/460 V with positions 1 and 2 or 380 V with positions 2 and 3. Follow the exact module diagram and de-energized setup procedure before changing it. -
Can several brake modules operate together?
The instructions permit a master-and-follower arrangement with only one master. All modules must be within three metres of the drive and use equal-length drive connection wires, together with the specified control interconnections. -
When does the brake-fault output open?
The contact opens if a brake fuse fails, the brake thermostat trips or power is lost. Integrate the documented contact circuit into the drive fault-monitoring arrangement and verify its ratings. -
Is an extinguished DC indicator enough before servicing?
No. Isolate all power, observe the documented discharge waiting requirements and verify zero DC-bus voltage with a voltmeter. The instructions prohibit servicing until both the indicator is extinguished and zero voltage is verified.
