The module incorporates an analog resistive touchscreen with a 1-million-press actuation rating and low operating force (10–110 g). This touch technology is insensitive to surface contaminants, moisture, and glove contact, making it suitable for food processing, wastewater treatment, oil & gas field stations, and other environments where operators cannot interact with bare fingers. The touchscreen is paired with a durable front bezel that can be field-replaced if damaged or faded.
A critical design feature for outdoor reliability is the integrated temperature sensor that actively monitors internal display temperature. If the enclosure interior exceeds 55 °C (131 °F), the sensor automatically dims the backlight to prevent thermal damage to the LCD and CCFL/LED backlight assembly. This self-protecting behavior is essential in outdoor cabinets subject to solar heating, where internal temperatures can spike dramatically during midday hours. To further enhance thermal resilience, Rockwell Automation recommends mounting the terminal vertically (to minimize solar loading) and optionally installing the 2711P-RVT12 visor kit when ambient temperatures exceed 40 °C. The 2711P-RGT12 antiglare overlay is also recommended to block UV radiation that would otherwise cause plastic bezel yellowing and brittleness over time
