The 1746-P4 accepts a nominal input voltage of 120/240V AC, operating over an input range of 85 to 132V AC or 170 to 265V AC with an input frequency of 47 to 63 Hz. The module provides 10 A of 5 VDC backplane current together with 2.88 A of 24 VDC backplane current, allowing the 1746-P4 to support a wide range of SLC 500 system configurations when the total chassis current remains within the specified power budget.

The 1746-P4 incorporates an internal power conversion circuit together with replaceable fuse protection for the incoming AC supply. A front-panel Power LED provides visual indication of normal power supply operation. The 1746-P4 distributes regulated power through the SLC 500 chassis backplane, eliminating the need for individual power connections to processors and I/O modules installed in the rack.

SLC 500 controllers continue to operate (hold-up) for a short period of time if theinput voltage to the power supply drops below the recommended operatingvoltage range. The controller continues to scan the user program and control I/Oduring this time. CPU hold-up for each power supply is shown on pages 14 and 16.SLC 500 controllers turn OFF (stop scanning and disable outputs) if input voltage tothe power supply is removed or drops below the recommended operating rangefor a period exceeding the CPU hold-up time. The controller resumes operationautomatically when the input voltage is restored to normal.If the input voltage to the 1746-P7 power supply falls into a range of 4 to 9V for aperiod exceeding the CPU hold-up time, the controller turns OFF and will not turnback ON until input voltage is increased to 11V dc.
