The Bently Nevada 990-05-50-01-00 is a 2-wire vibration transmitter to provide continuous machinery vibration monitoring by outputting a proportional 4–20 mA signal to control systems like PLCs or DCS. This specific configuration is part of the 990 series, intended primarily for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) of centrifugal air compressors, small pumps, and motors.

The 990 Vibration Transmitter is intended primarily for theoriginal equipment manufacturers (OEMs) of centrifugal aircompressors or small pumps, motors, or fans who prefer toprovide a simple 4 to 20 mA proportional vibration signal asthe input to their machinery control system.

The transmitter is a two-wire, loop-powered device thataccepts input from our 3300 NSv proximity probe and itsmatching extension cable (available in 5 m and 7 m systemlength options).

The 990-05-50-01-00 Bently Nevada 990 Vibration Transmitter may still be available for purchase and support from Amikon Limited beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

The transmitter conditions the signal into appropriate peakto-peak vibration amplitude engineering units, and providesthis value as a proportional 4 to 20 mA industry-standardsignal as the input to the control system where machineryprotection alarming and logic occurs.
Vibration transmitters have many limitationswhen compared to a continuous vibrationmonitoring system. They are a practicalsolution in some applications for measuringgeneral vibration levels and are a valuable toolfor overall vibration trending. However, theyprovide limited capability for machinerydiagnostics using the vibration signal and donot capture dynamic vibration signals (used fordiagnostics) in the event of a vibration alarm. While the transmitter is capable of peakvibration alarming and non-OK checking, the4-20 mA signal cannot be used to determinethe phase of vibration, and monitor functionssuch as gap alarms, phase alarms, Timed OKchannel defeat, Danger Bypass, and TripMultiply cannot be used. In addition, PLCsattached to the vibration transmitter can onlyprovide peak-to-peak trending data and arenot suitable for plant-wide diagnostic systemssuch as System 1 or Rule Paks
  • Petrochemical and Refining Plants:Early imbalance/bearing wear detection for compressors/pumps handling volatile fluids
  • Power Generation Facilities:Monitors auxiliary motors, fans & pumps supporting turbine operations
  • Food and Beverage Manufacturing:Reliable monitoring for high-speed processing & bottling plant motors
  • Pulp, Paper, and Steel Mills:Potted construction for heavy-duty fans/blowers in harsh/humid environments
  • Water and Wastewater Treatment:Monitors continuously-running large pumps & aerators for plant throughput

The 990 Vibration Transmitter is calibrated by adjusting the zero potentiometer with no input signal to achieve 4 mA output, and the span potentiometer with a full-scale vibration signal to achieve 20 mA output. For the 991 Thrust Transmitter, the mechanical calibration method requires setting the probe gap to produce a 6.5 VDC signal (measured between Prox Out and COM) and adjusting the zero potentiometer to 12 mA (center of range); span adjustment is then performed by setting the probe gap for a full-scale signal and adjusting the span potentiometer to the corresponding loop current. Both transmitters feature a Test input pin that enables quick verification of loop signal output using a function generator (990) or variable DC source (991) without requiring machine shaft movement.
