Description

The microprocessor-based XMTC is a compact, rugged, online thermal conductivity transmitter that measures theconcentration of binary gas mixtures including hydrogen, carbon dioxide, methane, helium and many others. The analyzeralso combines computer enhanced signal measurement withfast-response software, real-time error detection and digitalcommunication via an RS232 or RS485 interface.

Information

Overview Manuals Technical notes Product Applications Minimal calibration and service Sample system

Features:

  • Ultra-stable glass-coated thermistors
  • Single or dual gas push-button calibration
  • PC interface package for digital output
  • Type IP66/4X construction
  • ATEX, IECEx, FM and CSA certified for Zone Iand Division 1 hazardous areas
The XMTC is the most stable thermal conductivity analyzeron the market today. The rugged XMTC measuring cell resistscontamination and remains insensitive to flow variations. Sincethe design uses no moving parts, the transmitter can easilywithstand the shock, vibration and harsh environment foundin many industrial applications. If the transmitter requiresmaintenance, its modular construction permits fast and easyservicing. Users can field-calibrate it quickly and replace theplug-in measuring cell with a precalibrated spare in minutes.

The XMTC-62-11-0 GE Thermal Conductivity Binary Gas Transmitter may still be available for purchase and support from Amikon Limited beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Two ultrastable, precision glass-coated thermistors are used—one in contact with the sample gas and the other in contactwith the reference gas (such as air in a sealed chamber). Thethermistors are mounted so that they are in close proximityto the stainless steel (or Hastelloy®) walls of the samplechamber. The entire transmitter is temperature-controlled,and the thermistors are heated to an elevated temperaturein a constant-current Wheatstone bridge. The thermistorslose heat to the walls of the sample chamber at a rate that isproportional to the thermal conductivity of the gas surroundingthem. Thus, each thermistor will reach a different equilibriumtemperature. The temperature difference between the twothermistors is detected in the Wheatstone bridge, and theresulting bridge voltage is amplified and converted to a linear 4to 20 mA output proportional to the concentration of one of theconstituents of the binary or pseudo binary gas mixture.
  • Power Generation:H2 purity & leak prevention for H2-cooled generators
  • Metals & Steel:H2/N2 ratio in annealing & heat-treating furnaces
  • Chemical & Petrochemical:H2 purity in ammonia/methanol synthesis & hydrocarbon streams
  • Oil & Gas Refineries:Binary gas monitoring & flare gas recovery
  • Biogas & Landfill:CH4 & CO2 concentration tracking

A sample system is mandatory for use with the XMTC. Thedesign of the sample system will depend on the conditions ofthe sample gas and the requirements of the application. Ingeneral, a sample system must deliver a clean, representativesample to the XMTC at a temperature, pressure and flow ratethat are within acceptable limits. Standard XMTC sampleconditions are: a temperature of less than 122°F (50°C) fora cell operating temperature of 131°F (55°C) with a flow rateof 0.5 SCFH (250 cc/min) at atmospheric pressure. A highertemperature option is available.

FAQs

  • What is the XMTC-62-11-0?+
The GE XMTC-62-11-0 is a rugged, field-mountable thermal conductivity transmitter to measure the concentration of binary gas mixtures in hazardous industrial environments.
  • What is the primary function of the XMTC-62-11-0?+
It monitors and measures the concentration of a specific gas in a binary mixture by comparing its thermal conductivity to a selected reference gas.
  • Is a sample system required for operation?+
Yes. A sample system is mandatory. It ensures the sample gas is delivered to the transmitter at an acceptable flow rate, temperature, and pressure
  • How often does it need to be calibrated?+
The transmitter is designed for high stability and minimal maintenance, generally requiring periodic, zero-based field calibration. You can quickly field-calibrate it or swap in a pre-calibrated measuring cell without removing the housing from the site.
