      The IS420ESWBH2A device is an unmanaged IONet/Industrial Ethernet switch designed by General Electric to be used in either Mark VIeS or Mark VIe Safety Control Systems. A key defining feature of the differences between the five ESWB switches is the number of fiber ports on the switch; this switch has two 100Base-FX multi-mode fiber ports, no matter what type of mode the fiber port has an LC-type connection. A special feature regarding the RJ45 connectors is that they have the ability to handle high amounts of stress and should be able to be used with up to two hundred insertion/removal cycles.

      The IS420ESWBH2A GE ESWB Ethernet Switch may still be available for purchase and support from Amikon Limited beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

      The standard operation of the IS420ESWBH2A switch will operate centered on the ability to buffer streams of multicast and broadcast packets. There are multiple streams that will come into the switch and has enough space to buffer one packet per port, please note that multiple streams typically only allow buffering for one incoming stream and has to save the remaining streams for later transmission. 
       
      Since high reliability is needed when using the IS420ESWBH2A switch there are several performance criteria that should be considered during operation, switch architecture, inrush current, and switch latency. The inrush current of the switch will provide a soft start that will help to limit the inrush current to less than two hundred percent of the normal operating current. 
       
      When operating this switch the manuals used are the two volumes of the GEH-6855 manual as well as the GEH-6725 HazLoc manual, and the GEI-100869 Summary Sheet for the ESWB switch. Information can be found in chapter three of the second volume of the GEH-6855 manual.
      Environmental Protection: The unit is ruggedized to withstand extreme conditions, with an operating temperature range of -40°C to +75°C (-40°F to +167°F). It features an IP20-rated enclosure.
       
      VLAN Segmentation: Supports VLANs to segment traffic for security.
      IEEE 802.1X Authentication: Provides port security against unauthorized access.
       
      Redundancy Support: Compatible with dual or triple modular redundant (TMR) controller configurations.
       
      Dual Redundant Power Input: Ensures power reliability.
      Inrush Current Limitation: Limits inrush current to less than 200% of the normal operating current for soft-start functionality.
       
      IEEE 802.3x Flow Control: Supports flow control to manage traffic.
      Real-time Traffic: Supports IEEE 1588 timing for precise, synchronized packet transmission (1-microsecond window).
