The IC698RMX016 is a Redundant Memory Exchange Module. It is part of the PACSystem RX7i platform, currently under Emerson Automation, formerly produced by GE Intelligent Platforms (GE IP). This module is mainly used in redundant CPU configuration or as reflective memory module that can be accessed over the network. It comes with 16MB SDRAM with operating voltage of +5VDC provided by the power supply and current requirement of 1.8 Amperes. This module is required to be mounted to the main rack and attach to slot 3 or 4. It comes with an Fiber optic LC type with Insertion loss of 0.35 dB (maximum) and Return loss of -30dB.

The Control Memory Xchange (CMX) module provides deterministic sharing of data among PLCs andother computing devices on a high-speed fiber optic network, using reflective memory technology. Areflective memory network can contain up to 256 nodes. Each node in the network can be any reflectivememory device that is compatible with the 5565 family. When data is written to one node, all nodes on thenetwork are automatically updated with the new data.

The IC698RMX016 GE Redundant Memory Exchange Module may still be available for purchase and support from Amikon Limited beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

The CMX module initially powers up in an unconfigured state with its optical transmitter and receiver disabled. Themodule cannot operate on a network until the RX7i CPU has delivered a hardware configuration to the module.Basic operating functions are configured using Machine Edition – Logic Developer PLC. You can configure the followingparameters in the hardware configuration: Node ID, Redundant Transfer Mode, Rogue Master, Network Memory Offset, and Interrupt enable.Additional functions beyond the basic read and write operations, including enabling interrupts, reading interrupt status, enabling parity, and reading parity errors, can be performed by user logic. For details on accessing these advancedfunctions, refer to the PACSystems RX7i Memory Xchange Modules User’s Manual, GFK-2300.

Slot Placement: The module should only be installed in the RX7i Main Rack (Rack 0). It is highly recommended to use slots 3 or 4 to give the module VME interrupt request priority, although it can technically function in other slots if necessary.
Power Down: Always switch off the rack power before inserting or removing the module to prevent electrical damage.
Module Insertion: Align the module with the rails of the chosen slot and slide it in until it is firmly seated in the backplane. Secure the module by tightening the faceplate screws at the top and bottom.
Power Requirements: Ensure your power supply can handle the module's load, as it draws approximately 1.2 to 1.8 Amps from the 5V bus.

FAQs

  • What is the IC698CMX016?

    +
It is a Control Memory Xchange module that acts as a node on a reflective memory network or a dedicated link between CPUs in an RX7i system.
  • What is reflective memory?

    +
It allows multiple controllers to share data. When data is written to one node, all nodes on the network are automatically updated, providing deterministic, high-speed communication.
  • How many modules are supported in an RX7i rack?

    +
A PACSystems RX7i main rack supports a maximum of 4 Memory Xchange modules.
  • Does the module require configuration?

    +
Yes. When used as a node, the IC698CMX016 is initially powered on in a non-configured state with the transmitter disabled; it requires configuration parameters (like Node ID and Network Memory Offset) sent by the CPU.
  • How much power does it draw?

    +
The module has a backplane current consumption of 1.8 Amperes at 5VDC
