A thermocouple input (TC) moduleincludes three independent input channels. Each input channel receives variable voltage signals from each point,performs thermocouple linearizationand cold-junction compensation, andconverts the result to degrees Celsius orFahrenheit. Each channel then transmits 16-bit signed integers representing0.125 degrees per count to the threemain processors on demand. In TMRmode, a value is then selected using amid-value selection algorithm to ensurecorrect data for every scan.

Each thermocouple input module isprogrammable to support one thermocouple type, selected from J, K and Tfor standard thermocouple inputmodules and from J, K, T and E for isolated thermocouple input modules.The isolated module allows users toselect upscale or downscale burnoutdetection with the TriStation software.For non-isolated modules, upscale ordownscale burnout detection dependson the field termination selected.

Triplicated temperature transducersresiding on the field termination panelsupport cold-junction compensation.Each channel of a thermocouple inputmodule performs auto-calibration usinginternal precision voltage references.On the isolated module, a faulting coldjunction transducer is annunciated by acold-junction indicator on the frontpanel.
 
Each module performs completeongoing diagnostics on each channel. Failure of any diagnostic on anychannel activates the Fault indicator,which in turn activates the chassisalarm signal. The module Fault indicator merely reports a channel fault, nota module failure. The module continuesto operate properly with as many as twofaulty channels.
