Description
The TRICONEX DO3401 employs Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) architecture with three completely isolated electronic channels. Each channel independently receives output commands from its associated Main Processor, while the patented Quad Voter circuitry performs two-out-of-three voting before energizing each field output. This design eliminates single points of failure and significantly increases both system availability and functional safety.

Each TMR digital output module includes a voltage-loopback circuit. This circuit verifies the operation of each output switch independently of whether a field load is present, and detects latent faults that would otherwise remain undetected until a demand occurs. The loopback test applies a known voltage to the output path and measures the response, classifying the result into Off, transition, or On regions based on the loop-back thresholds.

The module performs ongoing diagnostics on each channel and circuit. Any diagnostic failure activates the Fault indicator LED on the module front panel and the chassis alarm signal. A separate LOAD/FUSE alarm indicator activates if the detected field voltage does not match the commanded state of the output point, indicating a shorted output, blown field fuse, or loss of field power.
The DO3401 supports hot-spare capability. A faulty module can be replaced online without shutting down the safety system, provided a spare slot is available in the chassis. The module is mechanically keyed to prevent incorrect installation in a configured chassis. Field power must be wired to each output point on the external termination panel; the module sources current to field devices but does not generate field power internally.
