Allocate the module's six input bytes and four output bytes within the configured station and verify its PROFIsafe address against the physical switch setting. Keep the recorded input delay and channel-fault behavior aligned with the project. Diagnostic settings support fault investigation, but neither a green channel indication nor a cleared group-fault LED validates the complete safety function.
Check each sensor against the permitted signal voltage, input current and protected supply budget. Two-wire proximity sensors are not supported. The fastest filter setting brings additional shielding requirements, while reliable signal capture also depends on test settings and pulse duration. Maintain the original validated wiring records because this product-reference package does not replace the complete installation and safety calculation documentation.

Why does the designation say 4/8 inputs?
The hardware has eight input channels. Individual evaluation provides eight signals, while paired evaluation uses two channels per process signal and provides four evaluated signals. The selected arrangement must match the sensors, power module and validated project; channel count alone is not a safety-class guarantee. -
Can two-wire proximity sensors be connected?
No. The exact-model datasheet excludes two-wire sensors. Siemens lists switches and three- or four-wire proximity sensors for this module. Sensor current, output levels and response to the configured testing still need checking before a device is accepted for the application. -
Are the internal sensor supplies separate power modules?
No. They are two protected sensor-supply outputs belonging to this input module, each rated for up to 300 mA and together limited to 600 mA. Their loaded voltage is at least L+ minus 1.5 V. The ET 200S potential-group power module remains a separate selection. -
Does a 0.5 ms filter mean a 0.5 ms safety response?
No. It is an input-delay setting, not the response time of the entire safety function. Sensor signal duration, short-circuit testing, PROFIsafe timing and the safety program also matter. The manual requires shielded digital-input and sensor-supply wiring for the 0.5 ms setting. -
