Siemens 6ES7138-4FA04-0AB0 is an ET 200S fail-safe digital input module for 24 V DC signals. It provides eight single-channel inputs or four evaluated input pairs, with two protected sensor supplies and configurable monitoring for the connected safety sensors.

The FA04 brings switch and proximity-sensor states into a supported ET 200S safety station. Decide whether each process variable uses single-channel acquisition or a paired 1oo2 evaluation before allocating the available inputs. The documented eight-input and four-pair arrangements are different safety configurations, not eight channels with an unconditional SIL 3 rating. Match the power-module combination and qualified sensors to the required function.
Treat the two sensor supplies and the short-circuit test as part of the circuit design. Each supply serves four inputs and provides up to 300 mA; internal supply is required for the cyclic short-circuit test. Pair mapping, equivalent or nonequivalent contacts and external supply choices determine which faults can be detected. Preserve the original wiring requirements instead of selecting parameters merely to suppress diagnostics.
Set filtering and discrepancy behavior against the process response budget. A longer discrepancy interval can retain an earlier valid input state, while the zero-value option behaves differently.
