Select the physical interface and protocol as a pair. ASCII is supported on RS232C, RS422 and RS485, while 3964(R) is restricted to RS232C and RS422. The eight-position terminal connection must be wired for the chosen interface. Apply the original cable, shielding and termination guidance rather than assuming the communication partner's D-sub pinout matches the module terminals.
Use the DF00 hardware-catalog entry with the required four-byte or eight-byte process-data size. This allocation is separate from the 200-byte message limit. Match baud rate, parity, stop bits, receive delimiter and permissible handshake settings to the partner. The documented maximum baud rate is 19.2 kbit/s, not the higher values associated with later serial modules.
Check the station interface module as well as the serial module. Siemens excludes DF00 product versions through version 4 from the IM151-3 PN HIGH FEATURE 6ES7151-3BA22-0AB0 configuration. Retain the application's matching communication library and instance blocks, and wait for initialization before validating send and receive transactions.
