Description

The IQS450 signal conditioner contains a highfrequency modulator/demodulator that suppliesa driving signal to the transducer. This generatesthe necessary electro-magnetic field used tomeasure the gap. The conditioner circuitry ismade of high-quality components and ismounted in an aluminium extrusion. 

TQ4xx-based proximity measurement systems areparticularly suitable for measuring the relativevibration and axial position of rotating machineshafts, such as those found in steam, gas andhydraulic turbines, as well as in alternators, turbocompressors and pumps.

The IQS450 outputs a voltage or current proportional to the distance between the transducer tip and the target, such as a machine shaft. The IQS450 supports two output configurations: voltage output in 3-wire configuration providing −1.6V at minimum gap and −17.6V at maximum gap with a dynamic range of 16V and 500Ω output impedance; and current output in 2-wire configuration providing −15.5mA at minimum gap and −20.5mA at maximum gap with a dynamic range of 5mA.

The IQS450 operates with a supply voltage of −20 to −32V for both voltage and current output configurations. The IQS450 will operate at ambient temperatures as high as 85°C, but to do so, it requires derating of the maximum input voltage. The IQS450 must operate between the minimum supply voltage and the maximum supply voltage as defined in the thermal considerations section of the data sheet.

Signal processing includes configurable high-pass and low-pass filters to adapt to different machinery types and measurement requirements. The linear range is 2.0 mm (80 mils) with sensitivity of 4 mV/µm (100 mV/mil) or 8 mV/µm (200 mV/mil) depending on system configuration. Frequency response extends from DC to 10,000 Hz.
