Two variants of the A2EE1A adapter are available. The A2EE1A–N is a connector unit for ESB Bus used when the bus is branched to the next SB401 module in a daisy-chain configuration. The A2EE1A–T is a connector unit with terminator for ESB Bus used when the ESB Bus is terminated at the end of the bus segment, preventing signal reflections and ensuring signal integrity.

The adapter attaches directly to the ESB Bus connector on the SB401 module. The SB401 must be installed in slots B1–B2 of the FIO Node Unit base plate (A2BE2D). In a single configuration, the SB401 is installed in slot B1 and a dummy cover (ADCV01) is installed in slot B2. In a dual-redundant configuration, two identical SB401 modules are installed in the B1–B2 slot pair.
The ESB Bus operates at 128 Mbps for I/O module data transmission, with a maximum transmission distance of 10 m per segment. Up to 9 units can be connected on a single ESB Bus segment, though the actual number varies depending on the FCS database configuration.
