The 21000 series housings are CSA Type 4 certified and rated explosion-proof for hazardous areas when ordered as CA21000 for North American end users. They carry Class I, Divisions 1 and 2, Groups C and D and Class II, Divisions 1 and 2, Groups E, F, and G certifications. The assembly is fully compliant with API 670 Standard for externally mounted proximity probe housings. For intrinsically safe applications, hazardous area approved proximity probes can be ordered with 21000 aluminum or 24701 stainless steel housings.
A key advantage of the 21000 housing design is that it allows external access to the proximity probe and its extension cable, permitting gap adjustment or probe replacement without disassembly of the machine. This reduces maintenance downtime and simplifies commissioning. A probe stopper at the bottom of the housing prevents damage from overtightening, and a thread lock feature prevents loosening due to long-term vibration.
The -28 probe option specifies a 3300 XL 8 mm probe with selectable hazardous area approvals (multiple agency approvals including CSA, ATEX, IECEx). The integral 0.5 m cable exits the housing through the cable seal grip, connecting to a 3300 XL extension cable and Proximitor sensor to complete the transducer system.

Thread the probe in or out of the housing sleeve until your multimeter reads the standard target voltage. For a standard 3300 XL 8mm system, this target is typically -10.0 VDC (representing a nominal 50 mil / 1.27 mm mechanical gap).
Once the voltage is dialed in, tighten the probe locknut inside the housing body to prevent the probe from backing out under machine vibration. Screw the dome cover back on.
