Description

The Bently Nevada 21508-02-12-05-02 is an 8 mm reverse mount proximity probe designed for use in Bently Nevada eddy-current proximity measurement systems. The probe provides highly accurate, non-contact measurement of shaft displacement, shaft vibration, axial position, and rotor movement in critical rotating machinery.

The Bently Nevada 7200 5mm / 8mm Series Proximity Transducer Systems are noncontacting, gap-to-voltage transducer systems that measure static as well as dynamic distances between the probe tip and the observed target. The general application in any requirement for an accurate, noncontacting displacement measurement. However, the most common use is for shaft position and vibration measurements on rotating and reciprocation machinery.

Features:

  • Frequency Response: 0 Hz (DC) to 10 kHz
  • Noncontacting
  • Gap-to-Voltage Transducer Systems
  • Measures Static and Dynamic Distances
The 21508 operates on the eddy current principle, where the probe senses the distance between the probe tip and the observed surface. Eddy currents are generated in the surface, and the loss of strength in the return signal is detected by the Proximitor sensor, which conditions the signal for linear display on a monitor. The 21508 features a reverse mount configuration with reverse 3/8-24 threads, specifically designed for installation in tight spaces or special mounting locations where traditional standard mount probes cannot be accommodated.

The 21508 is an 8 mm reverse mount proximity probe from Bently Nevada, forming a critical component of the 7200 Series Proximity Transducer System. The 21508 is designed as a noncontacting, gap-to-voltage transducer system that measures static as well as dynamic distances between the probe tip and the observed target, making it ideal for shaft position and vibration measurements on rotating and reciprocating machinery.

The 21508-02-12-05-02 Bently Nevada 8mm Reverse Mount Probe may still be available for purchase and support from Amikon Limited beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Side & Cross Clearance: To avoid "side-viewing" interference, maintain a minimum clearance area around the probe tip. The metal surrounding the mounting hole must be counterbored if it sits too close to the 8mm diameter tip.
Ground Loop Prevention: The coaxial cable shields must be electrically isolated from the machine chassis. Use Bently Nevada's specialized connector protectors (or flexible conduit) to ensure the miniature coaxial connectors do not touch any grounded metal structural parts.

Technical notes

This reverse-mount probe configuration allows installation from the rear side of machine casings or bearing housings, making it particularly suitable for applications where front access is limited. The reverse mounting arrangement provides secure probe positioning while maintaining measurement accuracy and mechanical stability.
