The Genius I/O system Bus Switching Module(BSM) is a simple, reliable device used to connect I/Odevices to two serial busses at the same time. Twoversions are available: the 115 VAC/125 VDC BusSwitching Module (IC660BSM120) and the 24/48VDC Bus Switching Module (IC660BSM021).One BSM can connect up to eight discrete and analogblocks to a dual bus. Using additional BSMs permitsup to 30 I/O blocks to interface to the same dual bus.This dual bus configuration can be used to provide abackup communications path to be used in case of busfailure.Each bus of a dual bus pair is connected to a businterface module (Bus Controller or PCIM). If eachbus interface module resides in a different CPU, thesystem can also support CPU redundancy.

The IC660BBA021 is a Genius I/O block. This hardware is a Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD) input block that is externally powered by a supply voltage range of 24/48 VDC. This I/O block is equipped with Six (6) input channels with channel grouping composed of Three (3) groups of Two (2) channels per group with each channel having an update frequency of Once every 400ms, 800ms, or 1600ms and Input filter ranges per block of 400ms, 800ms, 1600ms.
 
This RTD I/O block is ideally used for temperature applications as RTD sensors are especially used for measuring temperature. Additionally, this I/O block is capable of receiving resistance input range of 0-5000 Ohms from transducers and other instruments. This module is compatible with RTD sensors such as Platinum, Copper and Nickel RTDs. It is equipped with built-in Linearization and signal conditioning which enable this module to transfer an appropriately conditioned input data to the Central Processing Unit (CPU) in the form of engineering units and reported in tenths of degrees Celsius, degrees Fahrenheit, Ohms, or counts.

Default State: When de-energized, the module automatically connects the I/O blocks to Bus A.
Switching Mechanism: The module energizes only when it needs to switch to Bus B. An LED on the module lights up to indicate that Bus B is active.
Redundancy Logic: If communication is lost on the current bus, the BSM switches to the alternate. If it cannot find an operational bus after one switch, it waits for communication to be restored or for a power cycle to prevent "hunting" or unnecessary switching.
