What is 9466-ET?+The MTL 9466-ET is a 5-port, Layer 2 Industrial Ethernet Switch designed to provide Intrinsically Safe (IS) connectivity in hazardous environments (Zone 1/Div 1). It allows the safe routing of Ethernet networks and supports Power over Intrinsically Safe Ethernet (PoEx™) to compatible field devices

What is the default operating mode of the 9466-ET?+By default, it operates as a 5-port, unmanaged switch with auto-negotiation, automatically handling connections between 10Mbps and 100Mbps networks

Can it be converted into a managed switch?+Yes. The onboard EEPROM memory can be configured to support advanced features such as VLANs, rate limiting, and forced speed/duplex settings. This is done via the RS232/TTL serial port or an Ethernet Gateway.

With the 9466-ET switch each connection is effectively a 'point-topoint' network segment unlike the older generation hubs that weresimple 'dumb' repeaters. The old hubs needed to impose a limit onoverall network length to ensure proper collision detection; this limit isovercome by the 9466-ET. Broadcast “storm” protection is also providedto eliminate network overload due to excessive 'broadcast' & 'multicast'packets.
The 9466-ET MTL Intrinsically Safe ManagedEthernet Switch may still be available for purchase and support from Amikon Limited beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

The 9466-ET switch can also distribute power to compatible devicesconnected to each of its five ports via the RJ45 Cat5e cables (PoEx).This method eliminates the separate power supply cable to the devicesimplifying installation and maintenance.The 9466-ET is designed for hazardous-area mounting inside a suitableenclosure with intrinsically safe Zone 1, ATEX and IECEx certificationand Division 1 FM USA and Canada approvals. The ATEX and IECExapprovals cover both surface industry and mining applications.The default mode of operation is a 5-port, unmanaged switch with autonegotiation. However the onboard EEPROM memory can be configuredvia the serial RS232/TTL port either in the safe area, using a PC, or inthe hazardous area using the 9461-ET Ethernet Gateway as its hostprocessor.

Mounting: The module uses a standard "snap-fit" mechanism for TS35 DIN rails. Tilt the module to engage the top clips, then rotate it downward and press until the lower spring clip locks.Power Connection: Connect a 12V DC nominal (10 – 15.4V) intrinsically safe power supply to the module's screw terminals. A common setup uses the MTL 9491-PS, which converts a 24V DC safe-area supply into the required 12V IS output.
