Description

The CA 306 series of high temperatureaccelerometers has been designed specifically forgas turbine applications. The accelerometers feature a rugged design withhermetically sealed connectors. An integral mineral insulated (MI) cable with stainlesssteel overbraid ensures signal integrity even in themost hostile environments. The differential output signal minimizes noise pick-updue to electrical ground potentials.A version with side connector is available when anintegral cable is not required.

The CA306 operates on the piezoelectric principle, generating a charge output proportional to applied acceleration. As a passive device, it requires no input power. The charge output is processed by an external charge amplifier such as the IPC704 or IPC707 signal conditioner, which converts the charge signal into a current or voltage signal compatible with monitoring and control systems.

Information

Overview Manuals Application Notes Product Applications Mounting and Orientation

Features:

  • Designed for high temperature gas turbineapplications
  • Continuous operation up to 500°C
  • High output of 50 pC/g
  • Improved transverse frequency resonance
  • 4-hole mounting according to ARINCCharacteristic 554
  • Certified for use in potentially explosiveatmospheres
The CA306 utilizes VC2-type single crystal piezoelectric material operating in compression mode to produce a charge output proportional to applied acceleration. The sensing element is housed in an Inconel 600 case that is hermetically welded, providing complete environmental sealing and corrosion resistance. The transducer is fitted with an integral mineral-insulated (MI) cable with stainless steel overbraid, ensuring signal integrity in the most hostile environments. The model code 144-306-000-321 designates a specific configuration of the CA306 sensor. The differential output signal minimizes noise pick-up due to electrical ground potentials.

The CA306 144-306-000-321 Vibro-Meter Piezoelectric Accelerometers may still be available for purchase and support from Amikon Limited beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

The sensor withstands shock acceleration up to 1000 g peak (1 ms half sine wave) along the sensitive axis. Base strain sensitivity is less than 10⁻⁴ g/µε. The Inconel 600 construction provides corrosion and humidity resistance in hermetically welded assemblies.
Mounting is performed using 1/4" Allen screws with M4 spring lock washers at a nominal tightening torque of 4.5 N·m. Electrical insulation of the mounting surface is not required.
The CA306 144-306-000-321 carries certification for use in potentially explosive atmospheres with ATEX/IECEx markings per the CA series standard.

Orientation: Install the sensor perpendicular to the measurement surface to avoid base strain errors.
Surface Preparation: Ensure the mounting surface is flat, clean, and free of debris. Use a lightly applied coupling fluid to improve high-frequency transmissibility.
Fasteners: Use high-quality, ARINC 554-compliant mounting bolts.
Torque: Torque the bolts to 8--10 N⋅m to guarantee a secure connection without causing base strain.

Technical notes

The CA306 utilizes a compression-mode piezoelectric sensing element that converts mechanical acceleration into proportional electrical charge signals. With a nominal sensitivity of 100 pC/g, the sensor is particularly suitable for detecting low-amplitude vibration signals while maintaining excellent measurement accuracy over a wide frequency range.

FAQs

  • What is the CA306 144-306-000-321 ?

    +
The Vibro-Meter CA306 (P/N: 144-306-000-321) is a specialized piezoelectric accelerometer designed for extreme environments.
  • Does the CA306 require regular factory re-calibration?

    +
No. The sensor undergoes dynamic factory calibration at 5 g peak and 120 Hz (at +23° C). Under normal operating conditions, subsequent re-calibration is not necessary.
  • What is its operating temperature range?

    +
The sensor operates stably across an ultra-wide extreme temperature spectrum from -55°C to +500°C. This allows it to be mounted directly onto hot turbine casings or exhaust structures.
