If housing measurements are being made for overall protection of the machine,  thought should be given to the usefulness of the measurement for each application. Most common machine malfunctions (imbalance, misalignment, etc.) originate at the rotor and cause an increase (or at least a change) in rotor vibration. In order for any housing measurement alone to be effective for overall
machine protection, a significant amount of rotor vibration must be faithfully transmitted to the bearing housing or machine casing, or more specifically, to the mounting location of the transducer.
In addition, care should be exercised in the physical installation of the
transducer. Improper installation can result in a decrease of the transducer amplitude and frequency response and/or the generation of signals that do not represent actual machine vibration.
Upon request, we can provide engineering services to determine the
appropriateness of housing measurements for the machine in question and/or to provide installation assistance.
  • Pumps & Compressors: Tracks high-speed shaft movement and case vibration
  • Industrial Turbines: Monitors structural shifts and thermal growth in gas/steam turbines
  • Motors & Fans: Identifies imbalances, misalignment, or bearing wear
  • Oil & Gas: Applied across upstream platforms and downstream refineries
  • Power Generation: Used on critical equipment in thermal, hydro, and wind facilities
  • Heavy Manufacturing: Deployed in mining, pulp/paper, and heavy chemical processing plants

Field wiring: Connect the signal leads from the interconnect cable to the designated A and B terminals on the rear panel of the 3300/55 module.
Channel mapping: Wire lead A to the Channel A input terminal and lead B to the Channel B input terminal on the rear terminal strip.
Shield grounding: Ground the cable shield at one end only (typically at the rack/barrier end) to prevent ground loops and electrical noise.
Front access: Use the front-panel BNC connectors for temporary signal observation and diagnostic testing.

FAQs

  • What sensors can be connected directly?

    +
The monitor accepts inputs from one or two Bently Nevada Velomitor transducers, High-Temperature Velomitor Systems (HTVS), or standard 2-wire Velocity Seismoprobe transducers. No external interface modules are required.
  • How do I verify if a sensor/cable is functioning?

    +
Use a multimeter in resistance mode to perform an ohm check. Check for continuity between the cable jacket and ground; any measurable resistance indicates a grounded conductor fault requiring investigation.
  • What happens during a User Invoked Self-Test?

    +
The monitor tests its internal circuitry. If faults were logged during cyclic operation, the OK LEDs flash rapidly at 5 Hz, and specific error codes display on the LCD bargraph.
