Description

The Bently Nevada 3500/42M 176449-02 is a Proximitor/Seismic Monitor module designed for the 3500 Machinery Protection System. It provides continuous monitoring of vibration, position, and seismic measurements by accepting signals from proximity probes, Velomitor® sensors, accelerometers, and other compatible transducers. The monitor conditions incoming signals, performs measurement calculations, and compares results against user-configurable alarm setpoints to support machinery protection and condition monitoring programs.

The monitor supports a wide range of measurement applications, including radial vibration, shaft absolute vibration, thrust position, differential expansion, velocity, acceleration, and eccentricity. Each channel can be independently configured using 3500 Rack Configuration Software, allowing the module to accommodate various machine types and monitoring strategies. The conditioned signals are transmitted throughout the 3500 system for display, trending, alarm generation, and integration with plant control systems.

3500/42M is a Proximitor Seismic Monitor I/O Module manufactured and designed by Bently Nevada as part of the 3500 Series used for monitoring seismic activity. The 3500/42M Proximitor Seismic Monitor: I Protects machinery by continuously comparing monitored parameters against configured alarm setpoints to drive alarms. Communicates essential machine information to both operations and maintenance personnel. The Proximitor Seismic Monitor I/O Module is a device designed for monitoring and managing seismic activity. Seismic monitoring involves the detection and analysis of ground vibrations, typically caused by earthquakes or other geological events. The I/O Module in this context likely refers to an input/output module, which is a component that facilitates the exchange of data between the seismic monitoring system and external devices or control systems. It may include various input channels for collecting seismic data and output channels for sending signals or data to other systems
  • Power Generation: Ensuring the stability of large generators and turbines.
  • Oil & Gas: Monitoring high-pressure compressors and pumps in refineries or offshore platforms.
  • Manufacturing: Protecting critical rotating assets in heavy industrial plants.

Channel Pairs: Configure channels in pairs (1/2 and 3/4). Each pair must be set to a compatible monitoring function.
Alarm Setpoints: Define Alert (pre-warning) and Danger (shutdown) levels. Alarms are typically adjustable from 0 to 100% of the full-scale range.
Time Delays: Program alarm delays (1 to 60 seconds) to prevent false trips from momentary signal spikes.
Data Collection: Use the buffered outputs (coaxial connectors) on the front of the module for portable vibration analyzers without interrupting the monitoring signal.

Technical notes

The module features multiple sensitivity options to accommodate different transducer types and measurement ranges. Proximitor-based measurements (Radial Vibration, Thrust, Eccentricity) support 100 mV/mil or 200 mV/mil sensitivity. Differential Expansion measurements support 10 mV/mil or 20 mV/mil. REBAM measurements support 1000 mV/mil or 2000 mV/mil. Acceleration inputs are configured for 100 mV/g, and velocity inputs for 145 mV/in/s.
