Each Tricon system requires three 3008 Main Processors installed in the main chassis (Model 8110). Each MP operates as an independent channel, executing the user-written control program in parallel with the other two MPs. As each input module is polled, new input data is transmitted to all three MPs over the triplicated I/O bus. Each MP assembles this data into an input table and stores it in memory. The individual input tables are then exchanged among the three MPs over the proprietary TriBus, where hardware majority voting occurs. The voted data is used by the application program, and outputs are similarly voted before transmission to output modules. This architecture ensures that a fault in any single MP, I/O module, or communication path cannot cause a dangerous failure or spurious trip.

Chassis Location: Modules must only be inserted into the designated MP slots located in the Main Chassis. They cannot be installed within an Expansion Chassis or a Remote Extender Module (RXM) chassis, which are exclusively reserved for I/O and specialized communication modules.
Mechanical Keying Protection: The main backplane and slots feature distinct mechanical keying. This physical block safely prevents you from accidentally sliding a 3008 MP module into an inappropriate I/O or power supply slot.
