PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

8310 - 120 VAC/VDC Power Module

Triconex 8310 converts nominal 120 VAC/VDC line power to the 6.5 VDC supply used by Tricon controller modules. The manufacturer rates its output at 175 W at a 60 degree C ambient temperature measured at the bottom of the chassis.

Each chassis uses two power modules, either capable of carrying the full load under the documented conditions. Verify source capacity, input range and the secondary supply before replacement; disable the incoming power to the module being removed.
ACTUAL APPLICATIONS

Where 8310 supports controller power continuity

The manufacturer specifies redundant chassis power, source sizing and maintenance conditions. Assess the complete installed load and supply arrangement.
  • 01 · LINE CONVERSION

    Supply the controller backplane

Convert the documented AC or DC source to the controller supply. Check the recommended input range and source capacity rather than treating the extended range as the normal operating target.
  • 02 · REDUNDANT SOURCES

    Prove each source independently

Periodically verify that each power source can carry the entire system when the other source is disabled. Apply the site-approved proof-test schedule and the relevant module history.
  • 03 · CONTROLLED SERVICE

    Maintain the secondary supply

Before removing one power module, verify the secondary module and active source. Disable the incoming power to the module being removed and follow the manufacturer hazardous-location conditions.

SYSTEM CONFIGURATION

Verify input sources and full-load capacity

Triconex 8310 converts nominal 120 VAC/VDC line power to the 6.5 VDC supply used by Tricon controller modules. The manufacturer rates its output at 175 W at a 60 degree C ambient temperature measured at the bottom of the chassis.
Each chassis uses two power modules, either capable of carrying the full load under the documented conditions. Verify source capacity, input range and the secondary supply before replacement; disable the incoming power to the module being removed.
Each source must be capable of carrying the system without the other source. Confirm the installed load and wiring under the approved electrical design.

Features:

  • Nominal 120 VAC/VDC input
  • 6.5 VDC regulated output
  • 175 W output at rated ambient
The 8310 requires configuration and installation checks before system integration and commissioning.
INTERCHANGEABILITY

Verify the complete replacement identity before commissioning

Check the 8310 input rating and secondary supply before service. Disable incoming power to the module being removed and observe the 60-second reinsertion restriction.
Each chassis uses two power modules, either capable of carrying the full load under the documented conditions. Verify source capacity, input range and the secondary supply before replacement; disable the incoming power to the module being removed.
Retain the validated safety logic and proof-test records. Recommission affected channels under the approved site procedure.

Features:

  • Nominal 120 VAC/VDC input
  • 175 W output at rated ambient
  • Redundant chassis supply arrangement
The 8310 requires replacement verification of incoming power, secondary supply and restored status before returning to normal operation.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions buyers ask about 8310

Direct answers about identity, compatibility, stock, warranty, payment and shipping.
  • Where is ambient temperature measured for the 175 W rating?

The specification defines ambient as the air temperature at the bottom of the chassis. The output rating is stated at 60 degrees C at that location.
  • Why is 240 W source capacity larger than the 175 W output rating?

The first value is the minimum required input capacity per power source; the second is rated output power. They describe different sides of the power conversion and are not interchangeable.
  • Does a removed 8310 permit immediate reinsertion?

No. The manufacturer cautions against reinstalling a removed power module for at least 60 seconds.
  • Which supply must be checked before withdrawing a faulty power module?

Verify that the secondary power module is connected to an active source and performing normally. Incoming power to the module being removed must be disabled.
  • What changes when an over-voltage shutdown occurs?

The specification gives a typical 115% over-voltage protection level and requires recycling power to restart. The over-current limit instead has automatic restart.
  • At what internal temperature does the warning monitor trip?

The monitor trips above an internal power-module temperature of 83 degrees C. The guide notes this typically occurs at an ambient temperature of 60 degrees C or higher.
  • Can the historical proof-test table be applied without checking shipment year?

No. The guide gives different 8310 intervals for 1996-1998, 1999 and 2000-2005 shipments and different risk-reduction targets. It does not establish a universal interval for every shipment year.
  • May a failed power module remain in an ATEX application indefinitely?

No. The manufacturer requires immediate replacement or shutdown if replacement is not possible; continued operation with a failed module is limited to a location known to be free of ignitable gas concentrations.
