The achievable SIL, category and performance level depend on the documented application, suitable sensors and fault-detection measures. Cross-circuit-proof wiring and positive-opening contacts are specifically addressed by Siemens' later correction; the module label alone does not establish the complete machine's safety level.
Match internal sensor-supply tests to the connected devices and wiring capacitance. The manual restricts short-circuit testing to supported sensor arrangements, and a test temporarily holds the last valid input state. Allow adequate sensor recovery time, keep discrepancy time above input delay, and apply the later external-short-circuit response calculation. Longer test and startup settings can materially extend fault reaction beyond the configured input filter delay.
Separate user data from the reserved PROFIsafe address space when integrating the F-CPU program. The module occupies six input bytes and four output bytes, but only the documented process and value-status areas are for application access. In 1oo2 operation, use the lower-numbered member of each pair. A zero value-status bit indicates a fail-safe or deactivated value; the front-panel LEDs are not safety-rated decision inputs.

Does 1oo2 evaluation still provide eight independent process signals?
No. It pairs channels 0/4, 1/5, 2/6 and 3/7, providing four evaluated process signals. Only the lower-numbered channel in each pair is available to the safety program. The selected sensor arrangement and discrepancy monitoring must match the approved application. -
Does a 0.4 ms input-delay setting mean a 0.4 ms safety response?
No. Input delay is only one part of the calculation. Siemens' 2024 correction includes module cycles, active short-circuit tests and sensor startup times for external-short-circuit response. Calculate the complete safety chain using the applicable settings; do not substitute the filter value for the response time. -
Can internal short-circuit testing be used with every sensor?
No. The manual permits this test with the internal sensor supply and suitable simple contacts; it excludes sensors with their own power supply, including the stated three- or four-wire proximity-switch arrangements. Sensor recovery and cable capacitance must also suit the test timing. -
Is pulse stretching available on this module?
