This 240 volt AC Isolated Input module provides 16input points that are isolated. This allows each pointto be used on a different phase of the AC supply.The input is reactive (resistor/capacitor input) withcurrent-voltage characteristics that meet IECstandard (type 2). The input characteristics arecompatible with a large range of available proximityswitches.LED indicators that show the ON-OFF status of eachpoint on the logic (PLC) side of the circuit arelocated at the top of the module.

This module is compatible with a wide range of both2-wire and 3-wire proximity switches. To determinecompatibility with a specific proximity switch, find theON state characteristics of the switch in theillustration at right.If that point falls to the left of the input load line, theON state characteristics are compatible. As anexample, the ON state requirements of a compatibleproximity switch of 5mA at 20 volts drop is shown atright.In addition, the OFF-state current must be less than2.2mA.

Earlier versions of this module included a mechanicalkey to prevent inadvertently replacing a module withanother of the wrong type. The key latched onto thebackplane center rail when the module was firstinstalled, and remained on the backplane if themodule was removed.A new module without this keying feature can beinstalled in a previously-keyed slot without removingthe earlier keying. However, the key is easilyremoved by pushing it upward to unhook the latchwhile pulling it off the rail.
