The module supports a 0 – 22 mA input current range and a 0 – 6 V DC input voltage range. Resolution is 3.9 µA (1/256 mA) with a safety accuracy of ±1 % of full scale and calibration accuracy of 0.03 %. The sample update time is 0.5 ms. Input current is converted to voltage using a 250 Ω resistor on a standard Field Termination Assembly (FTA). Engineering units are reported as 1024 counts per volt, with 0 V reporting as –1024, 1 V as 0, and 5 V as 4096, facilitating easy scaling for 4 – 20 mA inputs.

The T8431CX can be hot-replaced on-line using dedicated Companion (adjacent) Slot or SmartSlot (one spare slot for many modules) configurations. Front panel input status LEDs for each of the 40 channels indicate input status and field wiring faults. Front panel module status LEDs indicate module health and operational mode (Active, Standby, Educated). The six module status LEDs include three Healthy indicators (one per slice), one Active, one Standby, and one Educated indicator.
