Description

The Triconex 3625 is a 32-point TMR Supervised/Non-Supervised Digital Output Module for the most critical control programs in Triconex Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS). The 3625 receives output signals from the Main Processors on each of three channels, and each set of three signals is voted by special quadruplicated output circuitry on the module. The circuitry of the 3625 produces one voted output signal and passes it to the field termination, with the quadruplicated voter circuitry providing multiple redundancy for all critical signal paths to guarantee safety and maximum availability.

The 3625 provides 32 digital output channels in a commoned configuration, with a nominal voltage of 24 VDC and an operating voltage range of 16–32 VDC (maximum 36 VDC). The 3625 delivers a maximum continuous current of 1.7A per point, with a surge current capability of 7A per 10ms. The typical voltage drop of the 3625 is less than 2.8 VDC at 1.7A. The minimum required load current for the 3625 is 10 mA, with a maximum load leakage current of 4 mA.

Designed for the most critical controlprograms, supervised digital output(SDO) modules meet the needs ofsystems whose outputs remain in asingle state for extended periods of time(in some applications, for years). AnSDO module receives output signalsfrom the main processors on each ofthree channels. Each set of three signalsis then voted upon by a fully faulttolerant quadruplicated output switchwhose elements are power transistors,so that one voted output signal is passedto the field termination.

Each SDO module has voltage andcurrent loopback circuitry coupled withsophisticated online diagnostics thatverify the operation of each outputswitch, the field circuit and the presence of a load. This design providescomplete fault coverage without theneed to influence the output signal.

The 3625 implements Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) at the module level. Each of the three independent channels receives digital output commands from the three Tricon Main Processors over the triplicated I/O bus. The channel outputs are then voted by quadruplicated power transistor circuitry to produce a single, highly reliable output signal to the field device. This architecture ensures that a fault in any single channel—whether due to processor failure, wiring error, or power transistor degradation—cannot cause either a dangerous failure-to-energize or a spurious trip that would disrupt process operation.
