Description

The system is based around a TQ402 or TQ412non-contact sensor and an IQS900 signalconditioner. Together, these form a calibratedproximity measurement system in which eachcomponent is interchangeable. The systemoutputs a voltage or a current proportional to thedistance between the transducer tip and thetarget, such as a machine shaft.

The active part of the transducer is a coil of wirethat is moulded inside the tip of the device, madeof Torlon® (polyamide-imide). The transducerbody is made of stainless steel. The target materialmust, in all cases, be metallic.The transducer body is available with metric orimperial thread. The TQ412 version is intended forreverse-mount applications. Both the TQ402 andTQ412 have an integral coaxial cable, terminatedwith a self-locking miniature coaxial connector.Various cable lengths (integral and extension)can be ordered.

The sensor operates on the eddy current principle, generating a high-frequency electromagnetic field that induces eddy currents in a conductive target surface. The resulting impedance change is measured by the companion IQS450 or IQS451 signal conditioner, producing a DC voltage output proportional to the gap between the probe tip and the target surface. The system provides both static (position) and dynamic (vibration) measurement capability.

The TQ400 series delivers a linear range of 2.0 mm (80 mils) with sensitivity of 4 mV/µm (100 mV/mil) or 8 mV/µm (200 mV/mil) depending on system configuration. System output is typically –2 VDC at the target gap.
