The Allen-Bradley 1756-L71 GuardLogix 5570 Conformal Coated Controller is a high-performance safety programmable automation controller for integrated standard and safety control within the ControlLogix platform. It combines standard automation logic and functional safety in a single controller architecture, allowing both applications to execute within the same chassis while remaining logically independent.

The controller supports up to 128,000 digital I/O points and 4,000 analog I/O points across 31 standard tasks and 1 safety task. Each task can contain up to 100 programs.
As a GuardLogix controller, the 1756-L71 implements a dual-processor safety architecture. When paired with the 1756-L7SP safety partner module, the system achieves SIL 3 / Category 4 / Performance Level e (PLe) safety ratings. The safety partner is automatically configured within the same project file as the standard controller, eliminating the need for separate safety programming environments.

The conformal coating variant (1756-L71K) provides enhanced protection against corrosive atmospheres, meeting Severity Level G3 per ANSI/ISA 71.04-2013 and Severity Level C4 per IEC 60721-3-5:2018. The coating protects PCB assemblies from airborne contaminants including gases, moisture, and particulates, with a copper corrosion rate tolerance of up to 8.5 microns per year.
The controller includes one built-in USB 2.0 programming port. Optional communication modules support EtherNet/IP, ControlNet, and DeviceNet networks. The 1756-L71 does not support controller redundancy.
The module draws 5 mA at 1.2V DC and 800 mA at 5.1V DC from the backplane, with 2.5 W power dissipation and 8.5 BTU/hr thermal dissipation. Isolation voltage is 30 V continuous for basic insulation. The unit operates from 0°C to +60°C and stores safely from -40°C to +85°C at 5% to 95% relative humidity non-condensing.
