The system measures both static (fixed) and dynamic (changing) distances. The output signal is fed to a monitor to determine such things as radial vibration and axial thrust position. Probes are available in different configurations to accommodate a variety of applications and to aid in installation. The probe tip is approximately 11 millimeters (0.43 inches) in diameter. The system offers a linear measuring range of 160 mils (4.1 mm) beginning at 40 mils (1.0 millimeter) from the probe face. Also, the system scale factor is 100 mV/mil (3.9V/mm).
